hi new member with a 98 cavalier z24 with lots of problems
Sunday, April 12, 2009 3:40 PM
Hi im new to the forum and like the subject states ive had a 98 cavalier z24 for about 3 years now and from the first week i had it Ive had nothing but problems. I am hoping someone can help me out a little. My main problems have been the cooling system and the 5 speed transmission. Has anyone had to change a water outlet? Is their a certain way to put this in cause Im having about a 1/16" gap when i put mine in.

A water outlet? Define what you are trying to do.

Water outlet? never heard of anything like that on my cav.... Could mean anything from water pump to thermostat. Could you be just a tiny bit more specific?

thats cuz u have an OHV motor. the LD9 has a water outlet on the head and a thermostat by the water pump. if you look up the part for the LD9 its called a "Thermostat Housing/Water Outlet" because the older Quad4 motors had a thermostat mounted on the side of the head where the LD9 water outlet would be, but there is no a thermostat in it on the LD9. the OHV just has a thermostat housing. much simpler

thats a part on the LD9 that will go bad. ive replaced 2 in the last 2 years and am going to be replacing another one in a few weeks (first one was done improperly by a shop in my town and started to leak again. second one same thing just starting to leak a year later) make sure you got the old seal outta the head, its basically just a little o-ring about the size of the inner piece on the outlet. if you did get that out already just double check and make sure the head opening is clear. put some vasaline or something on the new outlet/O-ring before you try to put it into the head.

hope that helps, best of luck with it

Check for a burr or something, tighten the bolts more lol

mine started leaking so i got a generic thermostat gasket from canadian tire and put some sealant on it, hasnt leaked since. the plastic started to break off, dealers closed and needed the cavi so thats what i did. no o-ring either. 5 bucks
