I have a 00' base cavi I've been working on. Im in the process of taking the motor out and replacing it. The haynes manual says in order to take the motor out I have to take the trans out with it. My question is can I just unbolt the motor from the trans or do I have to take them both out.?
helpful info would be what engine youre replacing it with... and do you plan on using the same trans?
its the 2200 motor and im using the same trans.
I will if I have no other choice. Right now I have the motor almost ready to be pulled. I have one bolt left to the tranny then the 3 bolts from the flywheel to the torque convetor. But the flywheel is jammed up somehow and I cant turn it.
Pull the tranny with it. it's not to difficult. I bet it's not your flywheel that jammed-up I bet your engine is siezed.
It was a tight squeeze but me and a buddy managed to get the motor out..When I say tight squeeze, i mean tight lol
yes, my cousin and i changed the 2200 in my 99' without pulling the tranny, VERY TIGHT FIT! if you are doing this by your self...you should follow haynes
Using an engine leveler to tilt the motor/trans helps a lot when using a hoist.
