does anyone have any ideas?? cuz i have many but not really sure on whitch one would be the best. the reason im asking is cuz i have an a$$hole brother in law that keeps sayin its a worthless car and you cant make a suped up car out of a chevy cavalier esp. if its a sedan and he ticks me of cus his dumba$$ has a chevy collorado and it has a dang 4 cylinder in it he thinks it can beat anything on the road and he cant even support my sister with her 2 kids with his crackera$% oil changing job makin 8 bucks an hour at i wanna put his truck to shame but im 18 only have a 2.2 with a cai pushin maybe 110 hp i think guestamating and i only have 250 to work with this month and i was stupid and challenged him to a race in two weeks so any help would be really great he has ahis truck
rwd auto four speed 2.9 liter inline 4 cylinder=185hpTorque: 195 ft-lbs + it has a cai airrade throttle body spacer e3 plugs and runnin synthetic oil but his truck wieghs in at 5000lbs plus add 250 for wieght of the rider so 5250 lbs

ok and here are my specs

Curb Weight: 2617 lbs= me 160 lbs stock Horsepower: 120 hp stock Torque: 130 ft-lbs = plugs and wires and cold air intake

ok, I'll be the "nice guy"
(grow up x6)

look, your allways gonna have people talking down your ride. heck, if you check out my mid engine swap you'll see I know what I'm talking about :p

but that aside, who cares if your brother talks you down, that's what brothers do. he drives a truck, so your probably faster then him already, but he is gonna be able to tow more, yours is a grocery getter, and it's damn good at it. be happy with what you have, and not with what other people tell you what you need to have. because evens if you had a 500hp engine, he would make fun of you for something else. it's kinda the same as those people that ask you to do stupid stuff in order for them to accept you into their friend/groop. you've got to grow up and accept that you are you, you have a car, that's a lot more then a lot of people your age can say. hey, I know, go out and get a gf. there a lot harder to get and maintain then any car, and should get you some respect :p

cheers!

btw, best bang for your buck, get a 3800 for $50 from the junk yard, and bolt it on :p true, it might not last long, but that's the price for stupidity

your post makes me wanna punch babies.

u have intake, so go full exhaust, header back

pace setter exhaust header i think they like $150
magnaflow hi flow cat: $80
magnaflow resonator 18" : maybe $50, dunno never bought/priced one
and a turbo thrush muffler: $50
plus the cost of piping to connect it all: whatever the exhaust shop charges.

take out all interior panels, and seats you dont need.
if you have subs, take them out.

and for $100 find someone with HPT to give you a intake/exhaust tune to free up a lil more HP.

other than that, idk what to tell you.
maybe get a crappy ebay turbo kit for your 2.2l and then get someone to tun yur car with HPT?

good luck man

Okay, so being a hard working 18 year old with 2 jobs, you only have $250? Sell the other two cars and turbo the Cav if its such a big deal to you.

Except why would he be picking on your Cav if you really had the two other cars?

A fully built Escort should beat him. Im not even sure if I buy this story.

for starters, reduce your font size to normal

My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again

the colorado has a massive amount more torque. he'll take you.

so im gunna have my buddy tune it and im putting a header and straight pipes on it cus i passed emissions just a month ago so i dont need the cat on it till next time whitch for indiana aint for 2 years so i think it will work
that will put you in a world of hurt you dont even want to think about. not only will it be obnoxiously loud and sound godawful, with the ohv it would move the powerband so high that it would be barely of any use.
Quote:

i already took out my subs cus im biuldin a new box and my rear seats so i think im just gunna go for it i ended up with 350 to spend my bank had an extra hundred in it cus of chase' new promo so im buyin all the parts and the race is on devils creek not sure where it is he chose the road
dont street race, it's gay.
Quote:

my buddy gave me his old cavys body kit and its lighter then mine
no body kit is lighter than stock.
Quote:

and i traded my head unit for some lowering springs
what brand/line of spings? and what are you going to do for struts seeing as the stock ones CANNOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES HANDLE A DROP?
Quote:

so im gunna put it all together this week so on the 5th ill be ready to race

this all sounds good and well thought out...

wait i dont mean that do i. it really sounds idiotic and immature. the only good outcome i can see from this is you crashing into your brother's truck and taking out the both of you domestic ricers.

please don't breed.

is what i would have said if this wasn't the newbies section. as it is right now, you need to grow up a bit. save your money, do it right, or don't do it at all.

I dont see why every kid that comes on here thinks they can justify their idiocy by saying that theyre only 18.

*Cough*Im only 17*Cough*

Why do you give a crap if he doesnt respect you? Why do you want the respect of a dick? If he was a decent person he would respect you for the "work" youve done. But I guess it would be hard if you act in person like you do when you type.

Best 'bang for your buck'
You can get up to 140 hp 150 tq STOCK(or so the GM order sheets claim etc etc)
Than once you beat him(hopefully) you have a good platform to build with

Or you could swap in a 3400 or 3800,
all of these setups you should be able to get into the car easily under 350....
However time and ability to install etc... are kind of needed.

But as they said...
Who cares what he thinks

Just go to a JY and pick up an ecotec engine and do the swap

First of all, THANK YOU for posting in the right forum. Definitely a NOOB topic.

Second of all, I don't know if I buy this....haha.

Hrmm, so you have a race in 2 weeks? and $350 to spend?

4 Door, (probably automatic) cavalier, with a CAI VS. 4-Banger Colorado?

A Colorado? A COLORADO?

That's like 2 ten year olds whipping out their dicks and seeing who's is bigger!

Honestly, it DOES NOT MATTER if you beat him or not

The general population will ALWAYS disrespect Cavaliers. ALWAYS.

Re: how can i get the most hp bang for the buck?

On second thought, if you are really intent on racing,

The cavalier's cut out at 108mph.

So make sure you do the VSS mod, and throw a switch in there. NO SPEED LIMITER FTW!

Your only way to beat a Colorado

Re: how can i get the most hp bang for the buck?

If your "2.2" is an OHV motor then this applies to you. But I think you have an Ecotec since you claim your hp is 160 hp but you also say its 110 hp which would be more accurate to an OHV.:

Theres not a lot of cheap ways to go with the 2.2 OHV that yield a huge gain in power. Intake and exhaust wont help a ton since the 2.2 head ports are a huge bottle neck from what Im told. Your best bet for a good base will be a mild top end build with a port and polish, upgraded valvetrain, and a cam. Otherwise you need to start looking into a turbo or a motor swap.

V6 swaps wont gain you a ton of HP. The 3400 has 50 more hp but about 100 more ft/lbs of torque. That swap requires a lot of wiring know how which Im not convinced you have the ability for. The 3800 is probably the best v6 swap due to the aftermarket support and power potential but its of a different V6 family so it requires a custom subframe among a few other things.

You can swap in a 2.4 LD9 from a Z24 or GT Sunfire (among a few other non J cars). Its probably the most straight forward as motor swaps go since the motor was designed to go in a J-body.

Also you can swap in a 2.2 Ecotec. Which if youre car is older than 2000 it requires a full rewire of the entire car to a 2000+ J-Body. If your car is a 2000-2002. There is a Sticky in the 3rd gen forum for a how-to. I dont know much about this swap since I have a 99.

And finally for the retard who ninja posted while I was typing this:

You are an idiot. You know nothing of J-Body electrical and should probably stop giving advice on the subject of VSS mod in any way shape or form. If you werent completely brain-dead you would know you cant do it with a switch and should also know that VSS modification should NOT be discussed on this forum.

what is it X22 now(lol)

Just effin with ya bud.

Heres what you do, you get a remote car starter, a 9000 volt taser, hook the remote car starter into the taser, now build a bracket for the taser mount it inside the seat right around were his balls would be, sew that @!#$ back together, test it to make sure it works. Now when it comes to race time with ur "ass hole bro" just hit the button when you are on the line right before the flag drops and take off. He won't know what hit em.

That is the most BANG for ur buck,

as far as the cavy goes get a z24 ld9 bulletproof the bottom end balance it, luv it and BOOST it. Save your money slow down for a min, Enjoy your car and enjoy the time you put into it, cause when you get to the track or the red light, and it goes boom cause you didn't take ur time, I'm gonna say I told you so.

Fast life, I live, big cars, big cribs, speedin
I'm speedin, I can't stop it's all I know
From a youngin I was taught get doe
I'm speedin, speedin, I'm speedin
