since the last one didn't get sticked because people didn't like how it was written here i go for another attempt.
an intake is just a pipe with a filter on it. it doesn't have the biggest horsepower gains on our cars but like any intake it does help the engine breathe, which does make power, give better gas mileage, makes your car sound cooler, and gives you better throttle response. different companies will claim different gains but there really isn't any difference between intakes. If you want the brand name for AEM or injen, pay the 150-300 dollars for the intake. K&N claims 8-16 horsepower for intakes but you will see 5 on a good day
2200 intake from AEM.
2.4 intake from AEM
ecotec intake from AEM
If you don't care about the name brand and just want the benefits, just buy the ebay intake and buy a better filter such as K&N or AEM
there is a difference between short ram, and cold air. If you going to get the short ram i would suggest getting or building a heat shied to keep the engine heat away from the filter. or you can get a cold air which relocates the filter out of the engine bay and eliminates that problem.
2200 intake from ebay
2.4 intake from ebay
for the ecotec, just buy the 2.4 intake and mod it to fit.
those STUPID tornadoes that claim outrageous claims, don't work.
electric superchargers from ebay, don't work.
they do make intakes to look like an FMIC with a filter in it. if you get it, you will probably be flamed like crazy and aren't as great as they claim to be
If anyone has anymore info feel free to add, if you have any questions, feel free to ask

Posts like this need to be stickied in the performance section, with blinking lights and giant arrows pointing to it... also new account with less than 5 posts should be forced to read it before every post they make. Thats the only way it will do any good... lol
i just figured since it didnt get sticked in the performance and someone said to make it more in depth i posted it here, and made it more in depth. but i do agree, MODS!! MAKE THIS A REQUIRED READ

^what they said.
and good attempt, but this has been done a few times now, it won't get stickied and we'll continue answering the same questions.
All the ebay links are expired
just curious, but how much "modding'' does it take to make the 2.4 intake to fit the ecotec?
nice write up!

i do like the original but i figured they didnt sticky it because of how it was worded. so i just lightened it up to try and get it to work.

Those links to Ebay that you have for the 2.4 are all short ram intakes.

Do any of you guys with 2.4L that have short ram intakes have a heat shield for the filter? I've been debating on whether to put a shield over the filter or not but all the ones I've seen on ebay look like they wouldnt fit under the hood because of how wide they are.
you really should'nt need a heat shield.
i'm currently running a filter right off my Throttle Body on my LD9. No tube at all... but this is because im trying to fab up one to work with my 2.3 HO Mani, and angled battery relocate.
sound wise, it almost sounds like having a fart can when i accelerate... you just hear a deep groan (keep in mind after the header and then the cat, the remainder of my exhaust is stock, including the muffler... not that i want it stock, i just haven't gotten there with the $$$ to do it right yet), at certain RPM levels..
Having a Cold Air intake will definitely muffle the unwanted extra intake noise, while keeping the more "motor" sounding intake noise people prefer with an intake, it will also allow somewhat cooler air to enter the intake.
now i need to find a good fab shop around here....
I was just wondering if anyone else was using a heat sheild for theirs. I didnt think that the filter would be sucking in much hot air next to the battery anyways. I still may get one for looks though.
