5 Speed dosnt want to shift into second
Tuesday, August 03, 2010 9:03 PM
Since ive bought my car shifting into second has been a task i figured it was probably just the shifter after installing my short throw and having less leverage its now takes 2-3 tries before im in second and not accidentally in fourth is there a easy fix to this problem or does someone have a idea of where i can start looking for the problem

This could very well be due to the short throw.. My 99 has a B&M short throw and 2nd is a task along with reverse sometimes. Mine isn't as bad as yours I wouldnt say, mine will easily slide into 2nd if I ease into it and let it go in where it wants to... But if I'm going along and try to go fast from 1 to 2 it will grind and not go in. It helps me to pull it from center to the left and down instead of pushing all the way left before pulling down..

it could be that your just not used to the short throw shifter... however, i sort of just took an angle grinder to my OEM shifter and replaced the knob with an aftermarket universal, ive never had a problem.

you shouldn't be having this problem, so i wouldn't say its because your not used to it. mine shifter just as good a stock.

I had a similar problem with mine, mine was hard to get into 1st, really have to jam it or it would end up in second, this was due to the rubber o ring around the main pivot ball of the shifter, it was riped alowing for lots of play in the shifter so the cables wouldn't be exactly where there supposed to be.....i'd start there
