Origin of OHV 4 cylinder engine?

According to Wikipedia (which we all know can be very inaccurate) the OHV engine that came in many J-bodies was introduced in the US in 1982. It mentions that it was originally an Opel design and was used in Europe before it was used in the J bodies. What Opel cars did it come in? And what year was it introduced in the Opels? I know it's a durable engine. I have 170k on my 2200 in my Cavalier. Damn good engine. I like the simplicity of the OHV design and the fact that it has a short timing chain instead of a timing belt or a long timing chain. It's definitely an underrated engine.

Underrated because its slow as hell and a pain to make it otherwise. However, they are reliable engines for the basic transportation crowd. I know there are guys here who've done a lot to their 2200s but honestly, it was my least favorite of the J motors. As far as I know, what wikipedia says about the OHV engine is true. Not familiar with cars available across the pond, but the OHV was a big leap forward as far as fuel efficiency with slight to moderate gains in WHP.

For future reference, you should put posts like these in OT. Hope this helps.
