question on tire size
Thursday, May 26, 2005 9:59 PM
just wondering if guys think a 205/55/14 Nitto 555R would be too narrow or you think the grip would make up for it. i have a spare set of 14in rims in my garage that i REALLY want to use for racing tires. please let me know ASAP cause im ordering before the 1st.

In my opinion if i had 14's, I would buy Drag slicks for them... I wouldn't put radials or street tires on them if i Wanted them just for racing...

i would get full slicks but 1) i cant afford them right now 2) i want to wait to get some Weld Racing wheels before i get slicks and 3) the class i race in requires DOT tires and specifically states drag radials are allowed.

You can get DOT drag slicks...

I would go with the 215 60 14's. The slightly larger diameter and cross section puts a much larger footprint on the ground. That's a real plus for boosted or nitrous guys like you and I. I personally run 225/50 15's, which is the "upsize" of the 215/60 14. Same overall diameter, but only a centimeter wider.

if your going that narrow you should get more sidewall, but really anything smaller than 15 or 16 is going to kill your top end

actually as long as you keep the over all diameter the same as stock it wont effect gear ratio or top end at all
