title says it all ! I'm going to the drag strip tomorrow determined to get at least 15.6 and for that I need a good launch.
I'm running on high performance summer tires and that's all I have. I tried running on my winter 14" tires and it was a disaster.
So what pressure can I safely air down my tires to so that I can improve traction ?
15.891 @ 88 mph stock, still getting @!#$ty launches...
i would try playing around with the PSI to try and nail the sweet spot. but if you go to low it will hurt you

that's why I'm asking for lowest safe tire pressure. thanks anyway

whats the max PSI for your tires? it usually says so on the tire

max psi is 44. I usually keep them around 38 for daily use. The lowest I've aired them down to was 30 at the track. I'm not sure if it's safe to go lower, that's why I'm asking

Last time I was at the track, I went down to 24psi in the front, and full 44psi n the back. I have the same size tires as you. Kumho Ecsta 712's
Best of luck, be sure to post timeslips!

how did they look at 24 psi ? No reverse "U" ? How was the traction ?

They looked fine, no problems at all. Traction was fine.

a problem your going to run into is the 17" rims. Typically there very heavy, and secondly the sidewalls are very stiff. So any traction gain from low pressures will be minumum.
If you still have your stockers I'd use those, with some decent steet tires.

^^^^ I would have to agree with that as well, despite what I said. I've never had the time to swap the steelies before a race, but plan on doing that for my runs at the track next year.
less rotating mass = better times.

I don't have my stock tires anymore, my steelies have winter tires on them (no traction, I tried), and I'm not buying tires just for drags.
Anyway, I lowered my psi to 26 in the front, which DID improve my launches, but not by much. I had one 2.254, the others were in the 2.3 range.
My best time was:
60' 2.308
1/8 9.9977
1/4 15.574
MPH 89.258
Stock except for the cone filter.
Thanks for your help y'all !!
15.574 @ 89 mph stock
i bought BF drag radials for racing. better traction and i save wear and tear on my street tires

There is a trick my uncle does with his SVT Cobra mustang he drew a line from the valve stem to his tire... every pass down the 1/4mile he lowered the tire pressure some more... and kept doing this and kept checking where the line was on the tire every run... then finally when the line was not in line with the valve stem, this was the lowest he could go for psi in the tires as they were spinning on the rim on his launches... you only have to do this once as you will know what the lowest psi is that you can go and every time you go to the track you can lower it close to that... works VERY well
