Well guys I am getting the car prepared for the strip that will be opening up for the summer soon and I need to lower my 60' ft times. I am running 9psi out of a T3 super 60. I am wondering what you guys recommend rpm wise for launching along with clutch control. My previous 60' ft times with the turbo on and stock exhaust (its amazing how much an exhaust helped). They ranged from a best of 2.404 on up to a 3.008 on run (OUCH). Is there any way to get these down running on street tires I have Goodyear Eagles. Also if anybody is selling a set of street legal drag tires please hit me up. Thanks in advance!

no offense but learn to drive.
lower the tires down to 24ish psi and realize that yoru throttle isn't isn't an on/off switch, if hammering it right off the line makes you just sit and spin then common sence would tell you not to hammer it right off the line. with a setup that far from stock noone is gonna be able to tell you exactly how to launch. Trial an error is the only way to go, write down tire pressures, launch rpm, and how quickly you get to full throttle and record what your 60' times are. then adjust somethign and try again, and adjust somethign and try again, eventually you'll figure out what works for you.
Ya I was going to try lowering the tire pressure. I think I ran the fronts at about 35psi last time. The spin is pretty bad though. Also I have had people tell me that I should hold the rpms to a point so that the turbo will create boost. Should I do this or do you think it will add to my 60' problem? I have a notebook ready for this season so I can record my info. I wish I could snag a deal on some drag radials.

Eagle RSA's? Drop them to 15 psi, get in the waterbox, clutch in, 5000rpm, 2nd gear, drop the clutch, try and let them simmer for a bit. Roll up to the line. Other people will tell you I'm crazy and that heating up street tires doesn't do anything and that 15 psi is too low. Well, ask them what their 60' time was on RSA's, and if its better than the one in my sig, than don't listen to me. Now, you're going to have to use some trial and error with this one to find your perfect starting RPM, but bear with me.
Try revving to 3000 with the car in first and the clutch depressed. Now, if you're practicing your launches, don't worry too much about the lights. A good reaction time doesn't equate to a good launch and if you're not racing competitively, it really doesn't mean anything. Once its green, start letting up on the clutch at a medium speed (you shouldn't be snapping it up) and as you start to get moving, start pushing the throttle in more as you bring the clutch out SMOOTHLY. Once you get it right, what happens is that you bring up the clutch in one smooth movement. It won't be slow, but it won't be lightning fast either. What you're looking for is to get going as fast as possible with minimal tire spin. Once you get it right, you'll know. If you spin the tires on the first try, bring the clutch out slower next time. If you bog down, then let it out faster. If you let it out faster and still bog, then try revving higher initially.
It takes practice, A LOT of practice. I tried different ways of launching for months until one day a guy I met on VW vortex taught me this procedure at ATCO. See the 60' time in my sig? That was on the same tires you have, doing what I just told you.
Other things that help would be removing as much weight from the rear as possible. If you have a speaker box--- OUT!! Same with the spare tire. Also, since your fuel tank is pretty much to the rear, always try and work it out so you have only about a 1/4 tank of gas when you get to the track. In a launch, weight transfers to the rear of the car, which brings up the front end reducing the weight on the tires which ultimately lowers traction. The less weight is in the rear of the car, the less of a tendency it will have to squat.
As far as drag radials go, if you can't launch at least decently on street tires (and from the 60' times you listed, you can't) then DR's still won't necessarily help you. A bad launch technique is a bad launch technique, no matter what tires you're using. Good luck man and let us know how you do next time out!

well i know for a fact that if your sitting on stock susp. that could be a good problem cuz before i got my coilovers and balanced my cavs weight to each tire on a 4 pad balancer set, i could drop it at 1000 or 4000 and no matter what it just spun. now i grab, squat and im gone.also i have no bodythrow shifting into gears, its all about weight transfer also i grabbed a set of potenza g009s in the front .
Alright, Thanks Scarab. I will give that a shot and I usually remove everything I can think of when I go to the track. I take out the back seats, passenger seat, and I usually run with about 1/2 tank or less of fuel. I take the spare out and stuff when I get there. I am still on stock suspension which I know is a bummer. Anyway thanks again for the help and if anybody else has some input please let me know. Thanks in advance!
