why is the sunroof open? extra downforce? jk
cool vids dude
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
it was so hot in there with it closed, plus it seemed to give better video
Cool vid! I love watching in-car vid. Driving looks pretty smooth, specialy in run 5. Hows your in car cam setup? Its nice and steady, where as mine is bouncy and I need to come up with a better solution. If you have any pics, could you post them?

i'm using the chase cam window mount on the rear windshield. I don't have any pics of it, but next time i use i'll make sure to take one. Basically, instead of hanging the camera straight out, I have it hanging down and to the side. my car is also on fairly soft (pro-kit and agx's). if you look at the e30's vid, it's a lot bouncier beacause of the stiffer suspension
I thought your entrance to the slalom on run 5 was still a little sloppy. You went wide through that second cone there. The car looks like it still understeers (when you aren't braking and turning at the same time
). Its kinda hard to tell with the camera being back so far in the car, so I could be seeing things wrong. What tires are you racing on and what settings are your agx's on?
nice runs....the one slalom got a bit out of hand haha...it happens though...love in car vids
i'm on goodyear assurances right now, but they are pretty much done. I know they suck for autox, but i've still trophied on them in sts (beat a couple people on azenis too). the shocks are on 3f/8r because i run on really smooth surfaces and 2f is constant oversteer. I would like to get some tires with higher max pressures because i am basically running at max pressure and rolling over. If i could get the tires to stop rolling over, i can turn the back shocks down a lil and use the tires to get oversteer/understeer. and as for being sloppy, i still haven't studied the video yet, but that's what it is for, thanks
cool vids, the first thing that that stood out in my mind.... seeing your left hand completely upside down on the right side of the steering wheel. crossing your arms like that is a bad habit., but coiol vid non the less. I wish I could get some in car vid of mine, I have a digital SLR which obviously doesn't do video, and a Sony Cybershot T1 which is so small there is no tripod mount or anything, no way to mount it to anything

Ok, im familiar with the chase cam mounts, i have a clamp type for my miata from them. I dont have a sun roof, but another member has the same type you have and mounts it from there and it works out well for him. Ill just have to redo mine to make it more steady.

that is exactly the opposite from what i have heard about good hand position. I have always heard you don't want to cross your hands when you are repositioning and you don't want to reposition if you don't have to. Which means, if you can, turning the wheel 180* without moving your hands is good. What do you do for tight turns? shuffle the hands?

Pretty much. If your going through an element that needs that much steering input (like more than 180*) you should be going pretty damn slow anyways. So the need to catch the car or be sawing at the wheel fighting for traction is minimized. Shuffling the wheel in that situation is better than trying to cross hands, for me anyways.
If you haven't seen them yet, check out my vids in photos and media
HERE. They might not be the best in the world, but gives you an idea of what I do behind the wheel. Look for the 2 pivot cones near the end of the course, specialy on run 4.

I love the pictures from that post...
I am by no means an excellent driver, this is my second year autocrossing, so I am just going by what better drivers do. I got my method from "Secrets of Solo" and some input from a couple drivers in my region. I used to shuffle hands through tight corners, but now I keep one hand at the same position and move the other one back to the top when i need to go past 180*. It seems to have helped my smoothness on the course and slide recovery, I'm not saying it is necessarily better. What I really need is a drivers school. There are a couple methods to driving though, and not every one is right. I think for my next autox, i am going to try to get a better shot of the wheel and my legs and have people really critique my driving. It's real hard to see what I am doing with my left hand in my videos.
I watched your videos a couple more times and it looks like the main difference in our driving is that you move your hands then turn, whereas i move my hands if I have to take the wheel past 180*. There is a big difference in courses too, the one I ran, there was only 1 spot where I had to turn past 180* whereas you were turning it that far a bunch. One thing I did see in your video is that you crossed your hands a couple times while shuffling too <--trying to help
I bout busted a gut watching that camera fall. I would love to autoX, but can't find any in my area, and advice for finding them.

Great video!! Im used to watching Brandons cam bouncing all around!!
I really want a decent camera and mount. Im sure I could learn alot about myself.
You do look really smooth on course, great job. I kinda disagree with taking your hands off the wheel. I prefer to keep my hands on the wheel as much as I can.
Go Go OG Traction!!
