What size DR to mount
Monday, August 11, 2008 7:45 AM
My front tires (Hankook K106) are almost worn and this car will start to see very little street time. I have a daily driver now, so I've already started to strip the interior and will start working on removing other things that I won't need at the track.

The car is wearing Enkie 16s now, but I have the original 14" steelies, too. I was thinking about slicks, but I don't have enough mods to need them yet. Seems, anyway, most people are putting down better times with DRs.

I have a stock suspension, until tax time comes.

What size would you guys buy? I'm kinda new to figuring what size will fill the wheel well, or what kinda backspacing I need and so on. What size did you run?

Pretty sure BFGs seem to be the most often used, but which one? Style 2 or the original block tread style?

2002 L61 swapped, so you know who I am waiting to hear from.

Opinions welcome. Any help would be great.

I used 205/50/14s for all of my runs. Mine have over 300 passes on them and they're still looking like they have a lot of life left on them.

Only cost about $100 each from Tire Rack too.

Why so narrow? Could you use the 225/45/R14?

Anybody else using a different size?

I could have used any 14in size I wanted. I liked the $100 price tag though. Bigger would help me out but it's no biggie to me.

I'd go with the 215/60R14s....those are the closest to the same diameter as a stock tire

215/60R14 = 24.2 inches
205/55R16 = 24.8 inches

The more I read about these tires makes me want a set too !!!

2.0 60'ft .....FTW !!!! Then maybe I can break into the 13s

I have the stock 14in steelies. That's what my DRs are mounted on in fact.

You're right. I think I will get DRs on the 14" steelies. And start looking for a street tire for the Enkies.

Any pics of them mounted?
I would like to see how they fit....I may be jumping on this idea also.

They look like tires mounted on 14in wheels. They don't stick out or anything because they're only a 205 tire.

If you really want to see them you can come look at them. They're just sitting around in my storage locker along with 4 other 14in wheels LOL.

What is? I'm being serious. 205/60/14 tires are smaller than factory 14s! They look kinda cool though.

Get a set of 14" alloys from an old cav or beretta. Their kinda hard to find (ebay might net you a pair, MAYBE if you're lucky, a set of four), but they're a flat gray 5 spoke wheel, and bound to weight less than a stock steel wheel.

I've got 2 more steelies and 2 alums in my storage locker All 4 are 14in and none of them are really all that heavy. It's hard to make a heavy 14in wheel.

What do you mean. That looks like a lot fatter tire than 205. And smoke is always cool
