just picked up a 2001 z24 2.4 35k.
was ran off the road knocking the oil pan off , and busting the auto trans.
I currently run a 96 cavy with a 98 2.2 auto.
any suggestions on this new car .
I know I need a another 2.4 trans.
will the frt. susp from a 98 cavy parts bolt on to the 2001z24.
should I goes for 4/5 speed or stick with another auto.
any standard mod that I should do the 2.4
thanks!
Will
What kinda rules do you have to follow?
basically all stock, or stock looking .
also it's a 1/5 mile semi banked track.
small but not small enough to run 1st all the way round
You'll wanna look into the 2.3 oil pump swap. The 2.4s oil pumps suck, and it will die on a track. Should really look into a 5 speed. The 4 speed autos don't hold up well on the street. Im sure it would be short lived on the track

I would have to disagree with this. The 4t40e is a fairly stout transmission and I have beat the heck out of mine with no issues. Not exactly on stock power level either. Im not trying to say dont swap to 5 speed but the auto will hold power fine.
Seen alot of 4 speeds dead in the 2.4 Grand Ams , Cavaliers, Saturns. You must've got lucky with yours. The 3spd are very hard to kill but not real sporty. If thats all you can find run it and see if it holds up. You can always do the 5 speed swap latter if need be.
4 speed auto trannys are pretty stout. 2.3 oil pump swap number 1 mod.
got anto , for 175. easier then trying the 5speed swap .
what about the suspsion , is it the same as a 96 2.2.
where can I get the oil pump pick/windence try.
local parts store only carries the pump it self.
thanks!
The suspension is all the same on the 3rd gens. There is a how to somewhere on the oil pump swap, you'll have to search for it
