My chumpcar team is planning on swapping the current engine in our 90 Cav with a gen II 3800. From what I have read the swap will be fairly straightforward, except we have to use the wiring harness and ECU out of a 95+ Camaro/Firebird. I have also read the that fly wheel will need to be changed or milled down to fit on the 5 speed that is currently in the car. Also new engine mounts will need to be bought or made, and various hoses, etc. will also need to be replace. Am I on the right track with how I am thinking about this, or not? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Yes flywheel needs to be miled. Not sure exactly the slecs.
Not sure on gen 2 cavs.
Im working on a 3800 swap atm.
i picked up a 98 olds intrigue, as a donor car.
im goi g to use its wiring and ecu.
if you can use them on ur car. And i dont see why not
it would be cheaper than a 95 camero as id imagine there worth more to someone restoring the thing.
I would run a 00-02 getrag 5 speed and a 6 puck clutch.
If you grab a donor car you wont have to buy 50$ fpr water hoses ext. As it will all be there.
From my research. And i believe in it knowing the power of a 3800 N/A and super. Full custom subframe is required then you fit two large mounts to it for you engine to sit on.
also you need a custom radiator support put in for the two side motor mounts.
Just my 2 cents. Got any pics??? Id love to see some.
