I found I ran faster when i shifted at around 6000. Peak HP is at 5600 RPM, going too far beyond that seems pointless to me.

you run 16's why do u only run 16's you not the best person for advise unless ur at high alt then its cool!

Peak HP is not the only thing to consider when choosing shift points. Theres been other posts like this one. Shifting at redline should give best performance in a drag situation without traction issues or anything like that.

yeah taking it past 6000rpm's is pushing it. just like red04cavy said 5600 to 6000 is the best rpm's to shift at. i would say 1st to 2nd right around 5700 to 5800 rpm's and take it to 6000 the rest of the way
Altitude at my track is listed at 1250', and my 16s were because I was stock, and brand new at driving a 5-speed (i did manage a 15.9 though--but it was like 90 degrees that day). I did manage a 15.9 at Thompson at the Bash too, but I'm sure a lot would agree that traction was an issue.
I was just saying that I ran faster when I shifted at 6000 RPM. I did also try shifting higher, but didn't break into the 15s until I tried shifting at 6000RPM. I tried shifting lower too, and 6000 seems to be my sweet spot. Every car is different, you just have to try it a few times to see what works. You will get a feel for it eventually.
I always @!#$ right before the limiter, and it seems like the best spot for me

I think I'll try the 6000 rpm shift from first to second, then to redline from there on. I may be able to run a 9.6 in the 1/8 mile or lower if I work on a better shift point and with better rubber for my stocker 14's. My best time so far is a 9.790 on my stock 14's, so who knows?
I also looked at a hp/tq chart and I have to agree that the 6k rpm shift from 1rst to second is the absolute best thing you can do. There is a significant loss in torque after a certain point, and I know that in the 1/8 mile I NEED torque to get great times. Am I right? Correct me if I'm wrong.
I usually shift around 6200 found it is the best place for my car

Once again, the engine torque curve is only part of the equation. Gear ratios determine the FINAL torque put to the ground. How do people talk about shift points without mentioning gear ratios!? It's like talking about HP without torque..
It's possible to be making less ENGINE torque in 1st gear and still be putting more torque to the wheels than 2nd gear with more ENGINE torque. Don't believe me? I dare anyone to calculate the torque to the wheels at redline in 1st gear and at whatever rpm a shift into second would get you in second gear.

I've always shifted at 6500 but it seems like the motor really ran out of of steam at 6000, with the blower going on im going to have to dyno it again to see if the power curve is bumped up at all, but NA seems to be really strong between 3800-5800

Well no car can continue to "feel" like it is pulling very hard as you near redline, but the fact is the car is still accelerating faster at that moment than it would be if you shifted to the next gear. So the point is, utilize the gear you're already in and ride it out, therefore maximizing the output of that gear. Everytime you shift up a gear you're giving up torque.

Thats pretty much the problem right there.. People see the dyno graph after 6k losing power and think that they should shift there since they're "going slower". This isn't the right way to think about shifting, like I've said about 3 times now. Gear ratios play as much of a role in finding shift points as torque/rpm.

the tranny multiplies power.2nd gear has a smaller gear ratio,meaning less multiplication.
