Yea those cables sure to there job dont they. We had a car (old lady driver) go though a set of cables like that around here once also. Why the hell dont they just use cement walls.
I still laugh every time I hear this story though. Some dumb kid in a FWD car tries to drift in a a parking garage, immediately proceeds to be smited by god for his stupidity.
I've 4 wheel drifted the living hell out of FWD cars down both snow and gravel covered roads but power sliding on cement? LOL

cost. allot cheaper then cement. and they probalby figure like me that if some idiot is going to be hauling ass in the parking garage and going speeds way over the norm. then they deserve to go off the thing and die.

Sidenote on the cables, Its a structure issue(and cost i guess). If you notice there are no cement pillars, or pillars with steel cores. Cement walls would be too heavy id imagine. lol well I'd know, I was an architect once in a bar.
holy fudge thats crazy . youre not supposed to try to drift in a front drive car anyway . all the cars in tokyo drift were modded for rear drive , watch the extras in the dvd . they were rear drive cars in the first place or all wheel drive cars with the front axles removed , like the lancer evolution . doing stuff like that can get you hurt, killed, sued , or locked up . parking garage floors are unreliable and slicker than owl @!#$ , i dont recommend doing this stuff .
