I just found these pictures while cruising www.dpreview.com. Pretty bad accident. Have a look:

ouch it says "Both Passengers were killed. Crossed the center turn lane and struck the oncoming car head on. No details just yet. " So both people in the cav died.. truly a sad thing to happen, the driver of the contour survived tho. seems like it was all the cav fault, maybe driving wrecklessly but it could have also been a honest mistake which is sad either way. Sucks tho, there goes a nice Turbo Sport C/F Hood..and type J kit.. Also damn look at that driverside door.. custom fold down maybe? Wish they woulda go a pic from the back, i bet that thing was destroyed.. it looks like u can see the structure of the trunklid inplace of the backseat..
that has to be it
the type j
cf turbo sport hood
pin stripe
stock Z rims
anyone know him well? was he really active here?

Ohh well, sucks just the same.
Disclaimer: I will probally offend you with what is written in this post.
Please tell me that's not a person shown here-
what like in a body bad behind the door? i kinda thought the same and i hope not either.. but i dont think they would still be there..esp if there were someone there to put them in the bags.. im sure they wouldnt be left sitting on teh ground..just hard to tell tho..
wow , my condolences to everyone who knows him and even to those who dont....sucks to see this kind of thing
Wow, sad news, if head on, why not more frontal damage to the cavalier? It seems as if there wasnt much front end damage, maybe they werent wearing a seatbelt?
From the pics, it looks as if the other car (the focus or whatever it is) crossed the line and hit the cavy in the rear. I searched for some news articles but I didn't come up with anything. Maybe there will be some tomorrow.
RIP

Jesus Christ. I neglected to even see the body in that picture. I also didn't even pay attention to the story when I posted. I just saw the jacked up car and wondered who's it was. Wow. Now I really feel bad regless of how it all went down.
From what I can determine from the pictures, it looks like the guy who took the pictures and made the caption meant that he crossed over and the Contour smacked the rear of the car "head on". There's no way the cavy was in a front end crash. Judging by the rest of the damage, if that was true, you wouldn't even recognize the front end of the car.
Truly a sad accident that shouldn't of happened regardless of the situation. Even though it's not really allowed on JBO, I think this post deserves a cross-post on General. I'll go ahead and do that and then chances are, the mods will delete the cross-post and then move this out to General.

More info. Here's the original thread where I found the link:
http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1019&message=15983786
The guy who took the shots said on the news that the driver and passenger in the Cavy were both killed due to not wearing their seatbelts and being ejected from the car.

Thank you for finding that. That tipped me off and I found the actual police report on the Columbus PD's website. I will not post the police report. You can go find it yourself if you are so inclined. Reason being, there is a lot of sensitive information on there (home phone numbers, etc).
Chris Shelly was indeed driving the car with a person named Kasey in the car. The report says Chris was airlifted from the scene and taken to Grant hospital. Kasey was taken in an ambulance to Riverside.
On the bottom of the same page, the injuries area says that the injuries were NON-INCAPACITATING but it doesn't say who they are referring to. I'm assuming they are referring to the driver of the Contour.
What stikes me as odd and doesn't make sense is that the myspace profile shows people praying for him up to today, as if he was still alive. The picture taker responded on the 23rd in the DPReview thread and said that both driver and passenger in the Cavalier were killed. Something isn't lining up.
I'm still hoping to find a news article on the accident.

Kasey is his gf -

She was the passenger in the car.
Quite possibly the saddest story i've seen on here.
WOW!
Talk about REALLY RETARDED news:
http://www.nbc4i.com/news/5386716/detail.html
The title says "Two Critically Injured In Head-On Collision". The subtitle says "Bent Tree Blvd. Closed After Fatal Crash". Further down in the article states "Two people are in critical condition after a head-on collision..."
What the hell?

Damn....
I don't know either of these people...but everything people are writing in her journal is really hitting hard. Judging by what people are saying, Kasey definitely passed away.
