Which would you rather own threads!!
Disclaimer: I'm well aware the cars I'm about to list are in totally different classes and cannot be directly compaired to each other except in a "whollistic" sense, which is what im looking for.
The choices:
- solstice or sky 2.4, add the hahn turbo kit down the road
- solstice gxp or sky RL with bolt-ons
- mazdaspeed3 with bolt ons
- lancer evolution with bolt ons
- 350z or g35 with a reliable single turbo kit (low boost!)
- s2000 with reliable turbo kit or centrifugal supercharger
- LNF cobalt if it ever comes out
- LS2 GTO cammed with bolt ons (or wait for the manual G8 to come out, hmmmm)
Price range BEFORE the modifications is ~23-25k, which would mean some of the above cars would have to be used, take that into account. The only cars above available at that price range new are the 2.4 kappas and the speed3.
Purpose of the car will be a weekend warrior with rare track appearances, just an all around fun to drive ride. If one of each was an option I would love each one like my own child
Feel free to suggest another choice, but I left out cars like the SRT4 because I simply do not like them. Thanks for looking!
If its just a weekend/summer/play car..... Kappa or the GTO. G8 will be around 35 or so new (nicely optioned)

How reliable is the VQ35 with six speed powerplant? I definately cannot afford a new G or 350 z at this point, but there are plenty used in my range. I've heard the tranny does not hold up well to abuse, what ever that means. But I've also "heard" my cavy is not reliable...buuuhhhhhahhhhhahhhahaaaa
Saturn Sky's are sexy. I'd take one with the Hahn turbo on it over the LNF any day. Otherwise, I would have to agree with a boosted 350/G35.

"Youth in Asia"...I don't see anything wrong with that.
SRT 4 with 5k in upgrades for less than 25k
^^^ NO THANKS! srt-4 with 5k = worthless. my friend who owns one with the stage 3 upgrade will even tell you that. he gets no traction at all until 4th gear. i mean he puts out nice numbers what when you cant put it to the ground its worthless imo. Id go for a GTO or sky redline.
Hit me up on AIM whenever you get this, and I will tell you what I think of our S2000 and a few of the other cars you mentioned we looked at before buying our s. I don't wanna type it all out lol...
Speed6 (can be had for $25k) but I'm a little biased.
Of the list GTO/G8
Solstice GXP
S2000 w/ LS2 not S/C or Turbo.
^^ I did a lot of research on the mazda 2.3 direct injected turbo powerplant. Its impressive, but with the six, you have the extra weight, and with the three, you have all that power to the front wheels, there are pro's and cons, but for strictly bang for the buck, ive concluded the speed3 is on top. but it may or may not be the most fun to drive and mod
im a huge fan of the solstice. ideally a base model so you could swap an LSx into it. get a front clip from a sky for a conversion. kit and rims. and youre good to go
coming back in 2008...
Totally disregarding your list and the replies to this thread ...
Im not to sure.
Since the whole E55 AMG debacle, I have yet to come across another car that sparks my interest.
Maybe a Saturn Astra or some sh1t ... pimp it out and pretend Im from Europe ... Because, you know, its all about the EDM now.
evo but no sti??
judging by the list, your mostly considering some form of rwd. that being the case, i'd say gxp/redline or the gto.
^^^^^^^^^^^^what he said.
I'd take a Saturn Sky Redline as a all around fun/weekend warrior type vehicle. Plus it's the only on your list with a ragtop (in addition to the Solstice), which would make it even more enjoyable during the warmer months. Not sure I would be into the racing aspect but for a two door car I could have some spirited fun with on the weekends, it would be my top pick.
s2000. VERY fun forgiving car.
My Cav
I give up...
i'm buying a VW those people love trees, so they should love eachother too... "Andy"
Edit...forgot that S2000 was a vert, but it doesn't influence my decision.
If I wasn't so familiar with its maintenance schedule, I'd say EVO, they are a hell of a drive
I'd probably stay away from high-powered FWD at all costs, unless you are doing nothing but drag racing.
My vote ultimately goes to 2.4L Sky w/ Hahn kit. However, check with your local track, as some rules require all convertibles running 13's or better to have a roll cage

in a straight line the 0-60 is the same. and if you're a tall person the 3 is just too small. Plus Leather and AWD beat the 3 imo.
If you like very cheap interiors and a pain in the ass roof, buy a sky/solstice. My wife and I wanted a sky redline so bad after we were at the detroit international auto show a few years ago. Then we went to test drive them when we moved down to florida, the interoir was cheapest piece of crap ever, it has the same radioas my moms saturn view. The idea having to get out of the car to put the top up or down is a pain, and there is absolutly no trunk space, even when the top is up. We also looked at the mazda miatas which were cheaper and honeslty nicer. I like the look of the sky better and the performance, but cons of the Sky were just so big for me. We eventualy ended up getting an Audi A4 convertable as it was a bit more pratcical with a full trunk and back seat, we have a large dog so we can still take her when we go to the beach on weekends and such.
This is what we ended up buying, These are the pictures from the dealership, our digital camera broke a while back and we have not gone out to replce it yet.
Turbo'd 350Z, I took a spin in one with a Greddy (I think) turbo kit, full exhaust, a few ecu tweaks, a bunch of suspension mods and better treads, it was a blast. I would rule out the front wheel drivers as I think rear is a lot more fun, the solstice and red line have very cheap interiors i was really disappointed in that. Evo's a great car too as well as the s2000 but I would add the Mazda Miata MX-5 to your list, they're tons of driving fun and have plenty of tuner support.
