I found a nice 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo (V8) for sale locally. It has 150k miles and doesn't come with a warranty. Are there any big problems with these jeeps that I should look for or ask about? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!
150,000 miles is a lot of miles to be buying a car dude

besides gas mileage? haha
i am not sure about the v8's but i do know the I6's are bullet proof, the issue with a cherokee with a 4.0 is just whether the body will rust out before the engine dies
go check of jeepforum.com
Here are the main issues. If it has Dual climate control make sure works and also ask the owner if the blend doors issue has been fixed. If not it will be another 1500-2000 to fix. Do a search on jeepforum for blend doors to get the full details but it is very time consuming and labor intensive. Does it have the High output v8 or the standard 4.7 v8? 4x4 or 4x2?
Its 4x4. Not sure if its high output or not
I have a 98 5.9 limiterd grand cherokee. The only issue I had was with the blower motor. When it went out it took the blower motor resistor out with it. Mine has the automatic temperature control and I am not sure if that pronlem is prevelant to all or just the one with ATC. That said I would buy another Jeep in a heartbeat. I find them more straight forward to work on then my cavalier.

buy an srt8, they are awesome, fun to drive and such, i love mine
99-04 had the blend door issue. If your serious about buying it check it out. Anyone will tell you on the jeepforum boards under WJ (which is the platform for all grand cherokees 99-04) to check for the blend doors issue. But seriously go there for any jeep related questions theres about 100 times the members over there. thats were all the info on jeeps is found
as a zj owner the 99 gc is a bad year it was the first year for the new body style. you could get a 98 for the same money much better truck as far as quality and refinement. just dont get the full time awd unless you have the money for a transfer case.
see ya!
I forget what year it was, but there was a range (I don't think it hit until the 2000's though) that had A LOT of problems with the Dana rear-ends... Personally, having worked on Jeeps for a good 3 years at the Dodge dealer I used to work at, I would NEVER buy one at 150K plus. Not that they're bad trucks necessarily, but at that point there's so much stuff, even in a well maintained vehicle thats just waiting to wear out or pop that its not worth it unless you're getting it real cheap or planning on using it as a project. But if its to be your primary vehicle- hell no.

i wouldnt pay no more than $100 for a car or truck with that high mileage
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
i dont know about the V8 GC but i had a 92 Jeep Cherokee with the 4.0 Inline 6 and i got it with like 212,000 and it ran great and was a dependable daily never had issues with it, i sold it to my brother in-law and he still has it and it runs fine. Personally a car with 150,000 would normally worry me a bit, but a Jeep with those miles doesnt worry me at all cause i know they are capable of high mileage and still being very dependable, buts its all up to you make a informed decesion on all the information you gather. Im pretty sure if you ask around to people who have owned jeeps and check the jeep forums you will see how dependable and long lasting they really are. I wouldnt hesitate to buy another Jeep Cherokee if i wanted one again.

as said above that is a WJ. Jeeps are great vehicles and i suggest them to everybody. If your gonna get a WJ style i suggest a I6 for reliability reasons. The 4.7 v8 is a powerful motor but no where near as reliable. And the limited's came with the blend door issue as stated above. Pretty much your face will have ice on it and your feet will be on fire. They WILL go out at some point and cost alot to fix. And as for gas it doesnt matter what engine you get. Its only a difference of 1-2MPG.
In all honesty get a ZJ (93-98). Youll never regret it
WJs are comfortable vehicles, but
- 150k is allot of mileage
- It's never a good idea to buy the first year of any generation
- Blend doors and warped rotors were common issues on WJs.
- 99 WJs didn't have a high output motor; that came later
- I recommend joining Jeepforum like I'd recommend a hole in the head.

Why is that? I've found a lot of good info there. People are actually nice there. There are some crazy builds there as well. Why cant you recommend it?
Just make sure you turn your lights off before shutting the jeep off LOL
Thats the only weird thing about my parents Cherokee... if you forget to do that.... you have to start it again then just the lights off, then turn the jeep off.... or the lights wont go off..... aparently its pretty common..

Personally after car shopping this week during cash 4 clunkers...i'd stay away from Jeep Grand Cherokees. I couldn't believe how many of those were traded in at every dealer i went to. there was 2 to 3 Grand Cherokees & 90's era Explorers to every 1 one of any car. Apparently they are huge peices of sh*t or people wouldn't be in a hurry to ditch them. If they thought they could get any money for it they would sell it like the ones you're looking at.
My mom had 2 1st gens and 2 2nd gens. The only good one was her first one. All the rest had electrical problems galore. IMHO if you want a jeep go Wrangler, go late model cherokee classic or forget it. once you get into a heavily optioned power everything jeep you run into problems. it's the simple jeeps that last forever.

I've seen a few 00+'s go a while....with a few issues....
that C4C is for stupid people anyways.....
The WJs are okay, granted I could agree about some of those fully loaded ones....

SRT8 Jeep Cherokee = The dumbest thing Dodge ever did...
They are 2wd so calling it a jeep is a joke.
It's really to small to be a useful SUV and it's limited terrain wise about as much as a camaro.. (and handing is sub par)
If you want muscle or sports car get one..... if you want an SUV get one of them...
An SRT8 Jeep is useless.... and your getting the worst of both worlds.... It's the Yuppies dream...
They took a jeep and removed EVERYTHING that makes it a jeep... so why bother having one...
SUV's are for off roading and driving in snow. You'de be better off having a fast car than one of them if you want fast.
Just My opinion though...
