K&N Typhoon CAI installed on my '09 Vibe GT

Well, since quite a few Matrix/Vibe owners were raving about the K&N Typhoon cold air intake, I decided to go ahead and get one for my '09 Vibe GT. I installed it a week ago Friday along with an AEM DryFlow filter in place of the K&N oiled filter (I didn't want to take any chances on screwing up sensors or anything with oil). I couldn't be happier with this setup! K&N claims it adds 9.06 horsepower. I don't know for sure about that, but it definitely feels like it's got at least a little more oomph to it when I hit the gas. What I really love about it though is the sound. When I'm cruising it sounds like I have a really nice sounding aftermarket exhaust setup. It's loud enough to make the driving experience enjoyable, while not being annoying or droning. When you really give it some gas it gets really loud considering it's just an intake. It also, obviously, looks a lot better than the stock setup.

Before anyone goes and says it's a short ram intake, not a cold air intake. It is actually considered a cold air intake because the factory setup has a plastic tube that runs up from behind the driver's side of the front bumper and goes into the heat shield, thus pushing air directly into the filter which is why K&N considers it a cold air intake.

Looks great! And I bet the sound does make the driving experience better. Any plans to do an exhaust, too?

Thanks! Yeah, the way it sounds is what I enjoy most about it. I don't plan on doing an exhaust because I don't want to void the warranty, plus it sounds and performs fine the way it is so I see no need to spend anymore money on something like an exhaust. Not to mention the reason why I got the Vibe is because no one makes any aftermarket parts for it and I was tired of dumping money into my Sunfire. Every car needs an intake though .

A few new toys eh?

Well, there are two Vibes in the garage (my mom actually traded her '98 Sunfire SE Sedan in for a Steel Blue Metallic '09 GT) and one vibe in my nightstand . Both my Vibes are right where they belong .

Maybe we should change this to the other toys forum. Heh.

I love the sound of a car with an intake and stock exhaust. The resonance sound the intake adds is just enough for fun without making long drives a pain in the ass for passengers. I'm used to my exhausts... but every girl that's been in either of my cars usually comments on it. Just gotta find myself a car chick and then it won't matter.

Agreed. I, too, love the sound of a car with an intake but stock exhaust. I had my old Cavalier like that (years ago), and it sounded better than a my friend's who had exhaust done. It makes it fun without being obnoxious and annoying.

I totally agree with both of you. I honestly think the Vibe would sound worse with an aftermarket exhaust which is exactly why I won't be getting one.

Looks GREAT Carrie. Does it bother you that people still say "Nice car dude", or that after so long 99% of the ORG still doesnt know you are a girl? lol...

Thanks Chris! I am used to it by now. The guys that have been around here a while know I am a girl, it's mostly the newbies that don't know, but I correcting them one "dude" at a time .

I think dude is beginning to lose its gender a bit. I call girls that I am only friends with "dude" fairly often. It's just more a friendly reference than anything, I don't know how gender biased it is intended to be. At least that's how it is for me. Sorry for going OT. My b.

That intake looks amazing in there. The only thing I don't like is that HUGE UGLY heat shield over the exhaust manifold. Just my opinion though.

Good call with the AEM dryflow.

It doesn't offend me or anything, I just let the person know I'm a girl . No big deal.

It's true !

Thanks! Yeah, I am not fond of the heat shield either, especially because it's all scratched to hell on the one side (must be from when it's on the line because my mom's has it too), but I don't plan on doing anything else to it so it'll be staying.

Most monochrome engine bay ever? Srsly tho, cool. I'd have the heat shield powder coated black if I were you.

That's not a bad idea on powder coating the heat shield, but than again it's not a show car and I don't really plan on spending any more money on it so we'll see what happens I guess.
