How to get a brand new Camaro LS under the CARS program

Find a torn up old SUV that made 12mpg or less, trade it in for a Camaro LS with the Automatic paddle gearbox (the manual doesn't qualify for a rebate) and voila! Brand new Camaro for under 20k. Less than a Cobalt with the same equipment.

Trading in a less gas guzzly car will only net you a 3500$ rebate, but it's better than paying full price.

yes, but you need to own the car for a full year, and have it insured for that full year.

So no, you can not go get a beat up SUV and turn it in. You need to own it for a minimum of one year, and not be over 25 years old.

As far as I can tell it has to be insured and plated for a year. I haven't read anything about personally owning the car.

The trade in has to be titled to the person turning it in for a minimum of 1 year to be eligible for the program.

Before you can even think of using this program, your vehicle must be titled and insured by you for at least 1 year.

the program is a scam any ways

Re: How to get a brand new Camaro LS under the CARS program

Really????? Crap, this program is an even bigger scam then. 319,000 people, 1% of the country, did not suddenly just up and take their old cars in to trade them for new ones because they needed to. That is not possible. The people who buy new cars are those who trade their cars in every five years or so, they're not people who drive a car 10+ years. So these new cars that people are buying might find themselves back on the market real damn quick as the country re-experiences a re-enactment of the housing crash on a smaller but wider scale.

Retarded.

Let's not forget that as of today, less than 2% of the deals out there have been reimbursed by the government. All these dealers gave people the $3500 or $4500, and went through the major red tape, and are still waiting for their money.

Oh, and how's your math? That's just under 0.1% of the country, not 1%.

Or how about people who just happen to still have that old car on the road to beat on, maybe for trips, maybe there kids, who knows. I still might use the program for one of my older cars. I re-up every 2 years max on my main car....
Or what about those cars that you held onto simply because you couldn't get more than 500 bucks outta them but they still ran just fine or how about someone who wants a new car but cant get @!#$ for there trade and suddenly there getting 4500 bucks for it...

people are only being lead to think this is a good thing , where is the money coming from ? its not coming from the presidents pocket , its coming from ours

and what makes you really think a majority of people doing this really needed a new car ? my guess not many , and since we all WANT new cars , that part isnt worth knowing or asking , next up can a majority of these people really afford a new car , even more so as screwed up as our economy is

spending 300+ a month on a new car , when your old car is paid off , does not balance out with the minimal gas savings each month , between the V8 or s/c V6 and the s/c eco i drive daily , id maybe save 50-60.00 a month , not worth the payment now is it

all this is , is a false jump to the economy , which is gonna lead to a large amount of REPO'd cars and trucks

Looks like the only ones that say it was failure are the ones that are not part of it. Go figure?

Story 1.
Story 2.

I think i agree to this. A lot of repoed cars will probably come out of this. And it's true you're not getting a freebie deal from the government. the $3000 to $4500 rebates are coming from yourself. How unfair is it to those that have bad credit fallout from losing their job that can't buy a car, yet they still were forced to pay for others to trade up?
how about all the stories that the economy is up, or that with all the amazing sales the car makers are adding shifts to make more cars...don't they realize??? this is only temporary as long as the so called "free-money" is being offered? After the CARS program finally dries up again, car sales will go over a huge cliff. Because financing is still scarce, without financing there are no car sales.

This whole thing is false hope.
It looks and sounds great, wait a month or 2 and see if it still is just the losers that didn't participate that are telling you, Toldja.

Well no @!#$ its coming from ours..might as well use it cause were gonna paying it for one way or another. And some of us pay ALOT more than others...

Your right maybe they didnt need new cars, but iv seen some of the cars traded in and well, there was no reason not to upgrade to something more reliable...

So youd save 60 a month...

Say all i had was my jeep..(car i was gunna trade in)

Just driving for work and nothing else, at the current gas price, id say over 5000 dollars a year in gas.

2000 more than my yearly car payments.

On top of that, either way, that money is going to a newer more reliable car instead of gas.....so if the savings were less, id still fell better about a car payment than a gas payment..

First we have this; and many think like this.
Jookycola wrote: how about all the stories that the economy is up, or that with all the amazing sales the car makers are adding shifts to make more cars...don't they realize??? this is only temporary as long as the so called "free-money" is being offered? And then we have this from one from the article.

Quote:

To meet the increased demand for vehicles which is expected to last even as the clunkers program comes to an end, GM is adding shifts at plant in Ontario, Canada where the Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain are built as well as at the Lordstown, Ohio plant where the Chevy Cobalt is manufactured.

What do these two have in common? None carries the gift of knowing the future.

Ive been thinking about doing this with my junk 90 silverado. Dealership told me 4500 for it.

My neighbor just got his daughter a base yellow camaro LS through the program and paid $15,200 for it out the door.
