As much potential as the SAAB has, because of lack of US aftermarket support, and complex engine management, it usually costs a lot of money to utilize this potential. Love my SAAB though! (This is speaking for 2003+ 9-3's, I don't really know about the earlier models, except that the 03+ platform is overall much nicer). Just a thought.

I LOVED my Thunderbird SC. Not only is it comfy, they can move. Not super fast, but for it's size it moves pretty well. They are getting rare too, so you'd be sitting on a sure thing collectible, and a fairly healthy aftermarket. Automatics run fine and are cheap, but expect to pay twice as much for the super rare 5-speeds...and that's a just cause because the 5-speeds are awesome. A manual tranny totally changes the beast.

quick question does a t-5 tranny work with the 3.8 s/c

The T-5 is a crappy RWD tranny. Im not sure if a RWD came with a L67, unless you what an idea on something.

My thoughts

1. Subaru WRX

2. 3rd gen Camaro with a twin turbo LS1.

"Project 69'"
1969 Chevrolet C/10, 1/2 ton, 2wd
-Boosted LS1?
-Richmond ROD 6-speed(will get sometime)
-Posi 12-bolt(built w/eaton posi unit and richmond 3.73 gears)
-Disc brake and 5 lug swap
+little extras

Why boost? If you really want a turbo, get an early 90s Nissan, or a Supra.

Upgrade to a TKO trans.

3rd gen F body with a TT LS1 would be very nice.

the thunderbird is a foxbody, you could make it run 12's for under 1500 dollars, slap a turbo diesel turbo on it, upgrade your fuel pump and injectors and your good for 350whp +. I'm currently building up a 79 mustang with the same engine, 2700 pounds + rwd is a lot of fun, the look on corvette owners faces is priceless.

To each there own, but I still say KA18DET or 1JZ. or if you live here it's easy to import cars, you could go with an RB series Nissan. A cheap WRX is hard to find in good shape, but can be made very potent.

Or for the true Forced induction enthusiast:

The Nissan March Super Turbo.

yes, the L67 and L36 block and bolt patterns are the same. however, because of the inlet on the s/c, it'd be a tough setup. just go with an L36. higher compression, deals well with cool boost, and it's the same bottom end as the L67

Andy

it's not how fast you go, it's how you get there that counts.
ZZP XP cam, 1.6 rockers, 105# springs, speedbuilt FWI, 3.3" modular pulley, TOG headers,

95-99 impreza with a wrx or sti drivetrain swap.

95-99 is lighter than the 02+ cars and you can pick up wrecked wrx's for cheap and swap everything over you need and then part the rest.

A nicely built C70 would be the sh!t. I've always liked those, in spite of the fact that I've never liked many Volvos.

Volvo 960 (with ls motor), Volvo 850 wagon (with ls motor), Volvo 850 sedan (with red block), Volvo s40r manual trans (if you can find one)

What's funny to me is people bragging about beating Cavaliers in street races.

Thunderbird Super Coupes are not fox bodies. Just FYI They are a great go between comfortable modern daily driver/classic muscle car. I got mine because i wanted a classic muscle car but desired A/C, and didn't want to have to pay an arm & a leg for a good muscle car. SC's are cheap, can be made fast, comfortable, and handle really good. Also look at the late 90's era 5.0liter T-bird's. All the go fast bolt-ons from the mustang, in a better handling package.
