I think hes asking a too much. KBB says 475 for fair condition. I need to email the guy about some more info. Motor cranks but wont run. Cant be anything super complicated.
Ive been looking into a Civic with a motor swap for awhile and I think this might be a good starting point for a B18C or B16. Id like to do a K-series but it looks to be a bit more work than I want to attempt.

475 in fair conidition usually means that its also in running condition. This one is not running so I would offer the guy 200.00 for it. You can think all you want about it not running, but until you get in there to see whats causing it no telling how much its going to cost you.
If its as clean as it looks, i'd offer 500 for it. The fact that it isnt running doesnt really matter since you are gonna be swapping something in there. I've been wanting an EF project for a while.
You can find an Integra engine for pretty cheap.
$500 is not a bad offer to make. The car doesn't look bad at all. No rust, could use some new paint. All in all a good shell to start a project on if you ask me.
I thought it looked especially clean and the price seemed pretty good since theres partial cars in this same area selling for about the same price.
I sent him an email about more pictures so we'll see.
Geesh swapping motors into these things isnt easy. Looks like the only thing that goes in without custom mounts and linkages is a D16a8 or D16a9.
Edit: Got an answer

the only rust are the pictures shown. the one i driver rear quarter, and the other is passenger rear quarter. honestly not bad for the year. i have not seen one this clean body wise around here.
the only things that i have replaced is the battery, the rings were shot when i got it. it does not leak any oil, only burns it. i do believe the cv joint is going out. not sure? i drove it like it. when you turn to the left it clanks.
there are some interior pieces not on the car. all of the pieces are there just need put back together. all that is left is the passenger door, and a few dash pieces

Well for the price what do you expect? And as far as the custom mounts and linkage goes...there are so many companies out there that make all of those parts for doing motor swaps into those cars. I laughed when you said doing a motor swap in these things aren't easy, because in reality it is quite the opposite.
$200.
$250 tops.
doesnt run...what if who ever was buying wasnt gonna swap motors???
so i say offer $250 and see where it goes...if not ask a lil more....see where he bites.
always nice to get it as cheap as possible
You shouldnt need custom linkage as long as you stay with a cable tranny and dont try to get a hydro tranny. Youll also need to convert it to obd1 or 2. Go with obd1 for tunning issues. You never know what may come of it.
Drive it off a cliff. I HATE Hondas. Not only are they fugly to start with they are annoying with anything other than a completly stock exhaust.
FORGET GIRLS GONE WILD WE HAVE GOVERNMENT SPENDING GONE WILD!
Because the roar of a Cavalier sounds a ton better. You just have to get the right exhaust. Put a cheap ebay muffler on a cavalier I bet it sounds just as @!#$ty if not worse. Put a good real exhaust system on it and it purrs. Any car can sound like @!#$ with a cheap exhaust.
What motor is this? I think its a D15B1 and if thats true it only has 70 hp hahahahha.
Might also be a D15B2.

D15B1
(Same as the D15B2 engine, but with a mild camshaft, and a restrictor plate between the throttle body and intake manifold)
Found in:
1988-1991 Honda Civic Hatchback
Displacement : 1,493 cc (91.1 cu in)
Bore and Stroke : 75 mm × 84.5 mm (3.0 in × 3.3 in)
Compression : 9.2:1
Power : 70 hp (52.2 kW, 71.0 ps) @ 5500 rpm [1]
Torque : 83 ft·lbf (11.4 kg/m, 112 Nm) @ 3000 rpm [1]
Valvetrain : SOHC (4 valves per cylinder)
Fuel Control : OBD-O DPFI
Head Code : PM3
ECU Code: PM9
I saw that page but I also read somethings saying that they came with the B2. Im thinking thats rated at the crank too.

Wow. You are both idiots. Sorry Wade. I like you man, but that is SUCH a narrow minded and, for lack of a better way of saying, idiotic comment. So too many kids buy Honda's and slap a cheap exhaust on them to sound raspy and loud. That doesn't make them bad cars. Especially if the OP has good and real plans for the car. Man don't be so quick to judge.
On the other hand....you have other fingers.

I bet I could go through this site and find a few dozen Cavaliers that sound like @!#$, are slow, pos's, and riced out. So I guess my advice to you would be to drive your cav off a cliff.
Buy it....I miss my EF. It was a blast. Mind you, it was the Si....so I had the whopping D16A6 in it

wow, who's the idiot again? i just said that to @!#$ with brian and he knows it. don't be so quick to sound like an asshat when you don't know what's going on.
Plus one on start offering at 200 and workin your way up. Their can be better deals found, buddy of mine got a crx hf with a d16a6 swap in it, not running and delivered to him with a spare motor and transmission in the back for 400. I just picked up a crx for 600 that was running and on new tires, a nice low miles spring and strut combo, header, intake, short shifter, and battery relocation. Of course it also came with a ton of rice i have been slowly peeling off. If you can't get it cheap just keep looking, and good luck.

Let's face it. I live on a fairly busy street. All I see and hear all day and night long is Hondas with fart cans and jacked up suspensions that are slammed to the ground hopping like the easter bunny driven by some poser who thinks his car is the shiz. Every dumb ass kid seems drawn to the turds and runs around with it like it is the fastest thing ever. Don't even get me started on all the GAY D M fads.
The negative stigma and stereotypes that suround the honda crowd are there for a good reason. They are enforced in peoples mind by the shear number of tools that are poster childs for it. Cavaliers are no different. They are thought of in much the same light and for a good reason.
There are a few very nice ones in my area and I have respect for the work that went into them. I would respect any car regardless of brand or model if the work that went into it was done well. But in general to me they are on the same level as beaners with their riced out chevy trucks trucks with the tiny wheels stuck out in the middle of nowhere. He asked for opinions and I gave him mine. I knew my honest opinion and not being a Honda fanboy would bother somebody. Now maybe you should take your own advice and not be so quick to judge me.
FORGET GIRLS GONE WILD WE HAVE GOVERNMENT SPENDING GONE WILD!
So I guess this plan isnt going to work out. Im quite disappointed. I cant afford insurance on another car so basically it would have to sit for months until I have the money to do the swap. My dad said he does want a dead car sitting in the street so I guess Ill be waiting for this.
best thing to do is wait. but i don't see what all the hate is about its personal opinion. my cavalier sounded alright nothing to be proud of. no matter what they are all tin cans.
efs are alright but hard to find since they are so old. egs are about the samething but do look good.
i had a 90 crx si for awhile after my sunflower caught fire. loved it on the highway handled great in the snow and excellent gas mileage compared to my flower ( never understood 250km to 30l of gas....)
get what you want though. my current choice would be ef if there was an absolute mint one around. also not running is not fun to deal with either. you don't know what else is wrong with the car ie suspensionbad bushings beat etc.
