Just a quick vid I made of my 03 Malibu with a muffler I got for free from a friend of mine. Cheap 3A Racing muffler, all else is stock.

It was louder than I expected, but not raspy at all.

All stock aside from the "3A Racing" muffler. Stock pipe, stock resonator and cat.

The factory muffler had the inlet and outlet on the same side. So it made a full 360° of turns after the over axle portion. This effectively opened it up, I'd say ^^

Sounds pretty good. I'm still trying to decide what I want to do for an exhaust on my 3100, and it's nice to get a good idea of what things sound like on the same engine. I have some ideas, but I don't want to go the experimental route, going through multiple setups on my car before finding one I'm happy with.
