Project Spyder
Sunday, January 24, 2010 2:15 PM
Long story short, I have a 96 Eclipse GST Spyder that was in an unfortunate accident in October of 2007. Since then it's been just sitting, rotting, withering away. Anyway, I came across a great deal and purchased another GST Spyder that was nothing more than a shell.

My project includes swapping everything over from the silver Spyder to the green Spyder, rebuilding the engine and updating the exterior a little bit, and giving it a fresh coat of Cyber Grey Metallic paint. Follow me as this project advances.

Here some pics of how the green one sits now, and what exactly happened to the silver one.

Green Car

This ought to be a fun project.

Thanks.

The best part is that I ended up getting the car pretty much free because it was going to end up at the junkyard anyway. Everything it needs, I already have. Well except a few front end pieces, but those will come in time. My first concern is getting the motor out, disassembled and rebuilt. Everything else will come in time.

You still want to lend a hand sometime with this one Brad?

That car is badass, but quite a bit over the top for my taste. I'm going for a clean, subtle cruiser that has enough under the hood to raise the blood pressure a little.

Alright, a little update. I got a few things done, but the weather just wasn't agreeing with me and since I have to work OUTSIDE, I only did what I could.

I got the fuel rail off, banged out some of the damage and removed power steering pump and reservoir. Drained and removed radiator. Took out filter box and intake piping. My hands are practically frozen solid, so that is all I could really do today.

I was hoping the radiator would be salvagable, but its bent, and looks like it's seen better days anyway. A new one will be ordered.

The power steering fluid reservoir was smashed up pretty good.

All of the stock intake crap thats going bye bye anyway.

Theres a nice huge solid chunk of ice in front of the car, which really makes it hard to get to some things under the hood.

And just another random picture of the new Eclipse.

Stay tuned, more updates to come as the weather improves, and if I get a helping hand here and there.
