Can I pull a faster ET?
Monday, May 17, 2010 4:01 PM
Ok so Friday night I went to holt. I had two really good runs. I want to see what you guys think. One run I was alone the other I had a passenger. Both were at 10psi on street tires. I can turn up the boost to 12psi maybe push it to 14psi. No tire psi change and I'm not using my launch control right now because my emanage software is down.

Run #1
2.0343 60ft
8.6311 1/8 ET
85.08 mph trap speed

Run #2 with Minh (about 160lbs)
1.9353 60ft
8.6751 1/8 ET
79.22 mph trap speed

now run one I had a much higher trap speed. Run two I had a really good 60ft on street tires and barely slower on the et but lost mph. I'm guessing because of the passenger. I would like to know your guys thoughts. You think she's got a lil more in her or am I at her max for my power levels?

you can ALWAYS pull a better ET.

weather it be due to track prep, weight reduction, tire changes, suspension changes, engine changes, driver skill, air quality, elevation and others. it can be done.

I don't think you read whole post. I meant with no changes. Am I taking the car to it's max with it's current power.

learning to drive the car on the track there will be room for improvement.

the lower 60' means lower mph

How does a lower 60ft mean lower mph? That's i serious question. Felt i needed to add that since I have a tedency to be a smart ass lmao. I want to bring the car to the best time I can after each power upgrade. So I'm getting a feel for everything. So when I do mods I can tell what it did and didn't do and know where I go from there. Biggest thing I learned so far is the flyin miata clutch blows.

I know there is room for improvement. I like to consider myself a fairly good driver at the track. By no means an expert and would live to get better. Kind of why I posted my info so by seeing it someone could give some input. I don't think a 1.9 60ft on street tires is too shabby though.

When your car hooks up better it takes longer to get in to high gear so you MPH is lower

When your tires spin you get in to high gear faster meaning more MPH

In my old drag car i would pull 1.55 60's and run 11.66@113mph or if it would spin i would get a 1.66 60' and run 11.69@117mph

and a 1.9 is NOT shabby on normal street tires but the key is to consistantly get the 60"

SO here is a huge tip when your at the track get a routine do the EXACT same thing each run

Work from the 60' to the end of the track so once you get the launch consistant the rest will come..

Good Luck!!

Ahh i see. Thanks man appreciate it. Yea I'm trying to do the same thing every time. That way I can change one variable at a time and see what works and what doesn't. I need to get my launch control working and that will help a bunch.

another way to put what Vipered said.. when your tires hook rather than spin, it means the rubber is grabbing and dragging your car into momentum rather than slipping into it. since your tires are spinning less coming out of the hole, there's less mph built up... hope that made sense lol

the launch is 90% of your run on most cases. a 1.9 60' time is def impressive, especially on street tires so it looks like you got that part down.. can always do better, but thats just the nature of the beast. sucks that it was 1/8th mile and not a quarter.. I'm interested in what your car can do after our last convo on here I still wanna run you... friendly of course, cause I have respect for anything boosted, and built properly and seems like you've done that

I pulled a 1.8 60' on my falken azenis so its highly possible. too bad you dont have a 1/4 vs 1/8th.

Evan this is my miata btw. I'd be pretty upset if this was my integra. And yes i wish we had a 1/4. But it's better than nothing. I'm running falkens as well. Great tires they hook awesome for street tires.

Try dropping the rear tire preasure a bit. In my old Sunfire I ran 32 psi on the street and would run a 10.5 in the 1/8. One day I dropped the front tires to 20 psi and ran a 10.1! Befor I get lit up for the times, it was an 05 with just a SRI and full interior.

I dropped the psi already to 25psi. Street tires have a breaking point. Anything below 25psi seems to be past that breaking point.

For driving on the street, yeah, don't go below 25. But for the track, it should be fine to drop lowwer. I was running Eagle LS tires, and 20 PSI didn't hurt them. Of course, this was bout five years ago.
