Hey all, thought you might like to see what I like to do on weekends...pretty much most of the nice months of the school year while going to school at SIU Carbondale for Automotive.
The Auto club down here has an ongoing project car that we run mostly at I57 Dragway in Benton Il. Its an 1/8th mile outlaw track that we bracket race at. Last year my girlfriend and one other guy from the Auto club drove it (Her in footbrake, him in Pro)
A few weeks ago I was voted in based on my experience and technical knowledge of our 1966 Nova to drive for the next school year. So this year my girlfriend will continue to run footbrake and I will take over Pro class. This weekend was my first weekend in the car just getting used to her.
Typical runs for the car are in the 6.35 - 6.39 range depending mostly on the weather. Usually a solenoid actuated throttle stop is used when "training" a new driver. It was installed on the car but the gentleman who built up the car from when it first started forgot to turn it on. So basically she was only two tenths slower than she normally runs just for the fact the performance carb spacer was not installed.
My two runs were 6.663 @ 105 and the second run (the one in the video) was a 6.7XX due more than likely to a transmission failure.
Overall the weekend could have been better, would have been nice to actually race (was a big payout weekend) and breaking always sucks but it was still incredible. Cannot wait till the new race season!
Anyone else do any bracket racing? Similar stories on the first experiences in sub 10 second cars?
