Just as the title states, I'm doing a bit of research for a business venture i'm working on
The business ties into my current company, Quality Fasteners, which is an industrial fastener distributor.
But just to be clear, I'm not selling anything in this thread, just researching, as I don't know what basic membership allows.
But my questions are;
When buying a bolt kit for a car or truck, which companies do you use?
What cars have you bought or would buy one for?
What's your biggest deciding factor on which company to go with (because the bolts are all the same)?
Which would be best for you? Zinc? Stainless? Polished Stainless? Or just plain?

I go to Fastenal to get bolts. Good customer service and have always been able to get me any bolt that i need. I usually figure out what bolts i need or take an original and match it up in the store. As for which ones i choose, it depends on the application. If it is a higher stress area like suspension my main concern is getting grade 8, but i need new bolts for the pulley on my M62 and i ended up buying stainless.

fastenal is great, but usually when i'm in a pinch and need a bolt that i had to drill out or torch, i usually just go to a local hardware store and match them up.

Well my company is similar to that of fastenal, same type of business, just a smaller operation than them.. But our prices are much better, fastenal pricing is outrageous, the margins they operate under make it possible for our business to compete easily..
And yeah, I personally have access to a warehouse of fasteners, so I am able to get what I need here and bypass kits myself also,
but what I'm looking to do here is putting the kits together at a significantly lower price than an Lmc tuck or similar could do, for the convenience factor, I am able to get inventory at a subsidized cost and my overhead is much lower than what I aim to compete against..

Just getting started, so we're in the process of getting our logo made and the site up and going, we're also planning on using an eBay store.. Most the business will be online and through various forums, this is just the start of the plan we have set in place, eventually wanting to work into more components.. And thanks man, we're starting with area we know best, fasteners and service..
And as the company grows we plan to start working on a 51 chevy 5 window as a company vehice that Chad my partner has using a big block Cadillac motor to give some unique character

I was always informed that For suspension you want to use a grade 5 instead of grade 8.
A grade5 will bend before it breaks under pressure where as a grade 8 may be stronger it is a lot more brittle to where as it will snap.
Someone correct me if I am wrong here.

I used LMC for my dads truck, with my 62 impala i used arizona bobs (small market but he does good work) But yeah something where you have the bushings too would be nice
Well I am working on my 85 type 10 and have used my local ace hardware(they sell stuff nobody seems to carry?) and lowes they carry alot of the grade 5 or 8 that won't rust or break under high temp its gold colored but not brass.Also they carry alot of body bolts that are black self tapping or metric or standard and alot of rubber grommets,and rubber flat washers.I like the hardware that is black in color and it is not just painted just like oem on my old cav if I can find it.The biggest thing is finding a flanged style bolt or hex nut flanged like oem is hard to find at least local wise.I could go on but,this is the short of things.And my cav is classic NOW hard to believe.
