Figured id ask the forum for a direction on where to go for a new vehicle....or atleast a direction that may lead me away from a j. Its hard to really decide if I should stick with the j and finish the turbo plans or move on to bigger better badder. I have about 6g to spend...that being said im looking for something decent on fuel, reliable and doesnt suck lol.
So far ive come up with a 93 up jdm subaru wrx that im in love with.....but a little leary due to the possible rhd ban in canada. Hondas around my parts are plantiful but tend to have outrageous prices along with mileage. LOts of vw's and I like them alot but I hear so much bad!
Cobalt would be an idea but seems to also be out of my price range at this point....so j-body......what could possibly fit??
The question you have to ask yourself is how long have you had your J, what all have you encountered with it (the good and the bad), and how often do you like to change cars.
Honestly, $6k isn't going to get you very far with finding another car. Whatever you buy is going to need work, which is going to be on top of the price of the car. If your J is running alright, then I'd say keep it. Now, whether to continue with the turbo on the J is another question. It depends on what you want it for - do you really want it, or are you just doing it for the hell of it to show off?
IMHO, I'd put the J in good running condition, scrap the turbo idea, and save the money for the future, when you can save some more and get yourself something nicer than a $6k used car. This of course is my personal opinion, since this is the direction I took towards the end of my ownership with my J.

I Know 6k isnt much...but dont want to finance just yet. I personally have no issues with my car and like the fact that its dirt cheap to find parts and reliable. I have a spare motor and tranny sitting at home, and a donor car. Ive done a swap so I know it inside and out. And really have no issues waiting to buy a more fancy vehicle once im done some more school.
I supose its the stigma that the car seems to have that bothers me...I personally dont see it but I havent really driven much else in the way of expensive vehicles. Hell currently Im driving my 84 s-10 blazer and im happy with that pos lol.
As for the turbo....I just want better performance out of it and have a little fun and feeling of accomplishment. Obviously it would be nice to have to "show off" if you wanna call it that but its more like making my car my own so I can enjoy it when I go drive. I already know no matter what I do to it....its still a cavie and will never get respect.
Save your money if the car is not giving a you a reason to want another car. Stash it away in a savings acount or short term C.O.D. You never know that cash could come in handy when you meet that special someone or want to buy a house.
Definitely save the money. I was enjoying $80 a month just paying the insurance and having the car paid off 1 1/2 years in advance before an old lady ran a red light. You can see the aftermath of that accident in my signature. Having a car payment and full coverage insurance again, sucks.
Seriously, don't buy a new car because of a notion that there is some sort of stigma about driving your cavalier. If you have saved 6k so far, then you are doing pretty well for yourself. Six thousand probably won't get you anything but "something different". Honestly, who cares about what people think about your car. You don't mind, and you know you have a decent chunk of change tucked away.

What he said. Wait a while and get what you really want.
Stick with the cav. You're probably like I was 3 years ago, and craving something newer and nicer, but trust me: In the end, it'll be worth it. You can either get something you really want in a car, or do something really nice for yourself and save for the down payment on a house. I wouldn't trade being a homeowner for any car. Well, almost any car.
