clicky
You want is to sift blindly through all the cars in San Diego under $3k FOR YOU? Um... Find something with a history of being reliable and get it with service records.

I'm at work so I can't see the pictures. However, it sounds like a decent car for a decent price. Maximas are great cars and really reliable. I would trust a nissan, as long as its well maintained, for a very long time. Just do your normal checks. Check the belts, brakes, fluids, look for rush etc... Maybe make sure its got a clean and clear title.
dont you have a cavalier already??? whats wrong with that for gettin groceries?
Not unintentionally accelerating since 2009!!!!
I never understood why people have a cavalier and then buy a beater. Whats the cavalier than?

well, it turns out a sensor in my tranny has gone bad, and i can't figure out how to fix it myself...
2200/4t40e and the code is po717, a speed sensor or something... 3 different shops have quoted over $3,000...
unless someone can point out something simple to fix the problem, the car won't pass smog in Cali because of the CEL...
any ideas or solutions will be appreciated...
I work at a place called certified transmission... lol. If the TOS is just bad, it shouldn't be a $3K job. $3k gets you a brand new tranny and install with warranty....
I work at the actual plant where we build, test, and ship the units, but here are where our CA locations are:
229 South Coast Highway
Oceanside, CA 92054
(an hour from Chula Vista)
2517 S Santa Fe
Vista, CA 92083
(also about an hour or less from you)
Encinitas, CA
(about 45 minutes from you)
So..... none of them are all that far, and if they are anything like our stores locally, you will get a very professional and honest diagnosis.
On the other hand....you have other fingers.

i dont care what you say, id prefer a beater over my car on all of the @!#$ty days of the week. just because its a cavalier doesnt mean its not worthy of being taken care of.

I never said don't take care of it. Is your car really that modded it justifies getting a beater for? How about just keep up on the regular maintenance and treat it right? I could see if you drove something less friendly. Like a miata or a corvette or a 350z. You know a 2 seater roadster. My beater is my lexus, lol. It see's the streets every day bad weather every day. I just keep up with the regular maintenance. I also have this really cool stuff called soap. I put it in a bucket with some water and put it on the car. Helps keep it up a lot. When I'm really froggy I have this special stuff called wax.
Given, when you mod your car you have to be a lot more careful. You have to keep an eye out for the pot holes not to @!#$ up your rims with low pro tires. When lowered have to learn to park and not pull up too far to hit the curb. Watch where you park. This doesn't mean parking like a ricer in the back of the parking lot, but don't park next to the 1982 F-150 that 12 mexicans just piled out of and stay away from the cart corrals. Honestly though, and not bashing J's at this part, J's are cheap grocery getters and people know it. Its sad to say but they are less careful around a J. When they get out and see a J modded or not they really dont care. When people park next to a mercedes, BMW, lexus etc.. they tend to watch their doors a little more. Given this is wrong because its still someones personal property you should always be careful, but we all know thats how it is. A lot of people don't care what kind of car it is.
don't get me wrong all maintenance on my baby has been up to date...
it's just some random sensor inside the tranny went out and their apparently
is a ton of labor involved in the fix, idea was get a car that can pass Cali's dreaded smog...
other than my clarification, I agree we drive grocery getters... some of us drive cavs
worthy of having another beater though... those are the ones that make me touch myself...
hahahahaha...
So..... hit up one of the shops I just mentioned. Sounds like a TIS or TOS sensor. They are inside the trans, but I am willing to bet a CT will treat you better on price of fixing or replacing it.
On the other hand....you have other fingers.
