I'm in the market for a big four door car. I mean BIG. I found an 87 Grand Marquis with 80k miles, for $2000, and its high on my list. I wouldn't mind a later model caprice, except twits from the hood would keep hassling me, wanting to give me two fiddy for it. Anyone here have an old beast of a car in the family somewhere? I'll probably keep it stock except for the suspension. No donked out rims or lowriding...just firm it up a bit.

I'd look for an lt1 road master or caprice. The woody wagons are cool and have a ton of room but an 9c1 cop car would be cool as well.
There's an old Caddy out here for sale. Bit of a drive to get here from Michigan though. Its parked on a farm just half an hour north of town. The rear end is still in town...

any bumps or potholes.
I like the mercurys and lincolns (fuel injected). I had a pontiac parissienne several years ago. Comfy, but I hated the carb'd 307.

Go with the 80's caprice and drop in a l98 tpi. seats were the overstuffed velour, so much more comfortable than the later models, with the tpi you can pull 20 mpg

There are definitely some good deals to be had on these older cars. Lots of 87-90 Grand Marquis with under 80k miles for less than $3,000. One dealer I talked to, said there would be a lot more out there, but cash for "clunkers" saw a lot of good condition cars get scrapped. He said this old man traded in a 1990 lincoln towncar, with 70,000 miles. Body was mint, interior leather was still supple and no cracks.... dealer maintained, with all the paperwork. But the old fart didn't want to hassle with trying to sell it, and figured the $4000 he got was better than he could get by selling it. He upgraded to a Ford Fusion. Dealer said he was so pissed at that stupid program.

I like the old Grand Marquis and crown vics. Nice ride and plenty of room. Another car I would recommend is a 83-late 80's Mercedes 300sd or td. I currently own a 83 300sd and love it. Its a diesel and you just about cant kill these cars. 2 times on accident due to thrown v belts the motor hit 270 degrees and it still runs like a champ. It has 291k on it and uses no oil (which is good for it being a diesel) and gets 20-24 mpg.
Well, IF ur interested, i have a 1983 Oldsmobile Delta 88 2 door coupe. Trying to get 1000 for her. Runs great, just had 1000 worth of new work done to her such as new rebult transmission, new oil pan, new gasket, tune up, new front brake lines with proportioning valve, new master cylinder, new valve cover gaskets. Runs and drives great, my father has owned it since 1984. Needs a paint job since i tried to paint it and it didnt come out great, but at least it matches on the outside. Was 4 diffrent colors of light blue, now its black gloss (sorta), front seat is a little ripped and my father had my mother sow a new piece of fabric on it, so its needs to be removed and the seams just re-stiched. Car has 97 or 98,000 on it, NEVER crossed 100k yet. If the new work has 300 miles on it i would be surprised. It got repaired, gas prices flew high, and it got parked. No rust holes, only VERY minor surface rust. Only thing it needs is brake lines to the rear wheel cylinders, and thats all. About 4 years ago, it had the calipers replaced, and the wheel cylinders replaced as well as all the brakes, and new tires at that time. Now im sure it could use some new tires, but they all have 80% tread life left. About 9 years ago I installed new shocks and springs in the rear so its not sagging, and the thing is straight as a arrow. Good running car. If you interested, pm me, and ill get you some pics. Oh, it even has the original analog radio
