Gonna take a stab at sounding like a total newb...Long story short... i have the original radio/head unit from my 03 base cav. The radio in my dads 2001 GMC jimmy is starting to crap out. My question is would i be able to put the radio from the cavalier into the jimmy without any theftlock issues? I ask because the one in the jimmy says theftlock and the one from the cav does not. Would it be a direct swap or is there more involved that i should be aware of?
Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
i would check out blazerforums.com for info on this or ask in electronics
I would say just tear the radio out and swap them and see it if works. It shouldn't take long to do this. Also you can always look up wiring harnesses for both cars form the same company and find out it they are the same. If they are then you will be able to swap but the only way to figure out if the theft lock is a problem is to either do it and find out or find someone that has done this swap before but most likely you will be better off doing it yourself.
Oh and just throwing this out there the wiring harness for me 03 Silverado was the same as my 01 Cavalier. I did put the trucks radio in the cavalier when I sold it but the theft lock needed to be taken care of by a dealer. Both radios had theft lock but I am sure that it was only a problem due to the one going in having the theft lock.

have you tried swapping yoor radio? are 2000 blazers the older style still? i know the 2003s were a double din. for the OP poster, yes it will work physically but it will lock up once you try it in your GMC. all you really need to do is take your truck to the dealer and have it reprogrammed for your truck .
thanks for the quick responses guys...
By "lock up" are you referring to the radio not working or some other electrical component not functioning? In either scenario do i take it to only a place that sells/services GM products or can my regular mechanic do it? Any ideas as to what the reprogramming would cost at a dealer?
thanks again for everyones help.
dealer,, has to use the tech2 on it./ just the radio will will lock up.
