Its time to get new tires for the truck (dry rot) and I was wonder what tires other have used with a similar truck (1.2 ton full size). I currently have some Cooper Discoverer A/T 245/75/16 and who knows what factory spare. I have been very pleased with them, but it appears as if that tire is no longer manufactured. I would like to stick to Cooper tires, however some further research will be needed as to what models are NOT made is China. I refuse to buy a Cooper made in China due to the @!#$ty quality I have come across with them. I do not need an off road tire as this truck is not used for that kind of driving. If I have to leave a path I know enough on how to drive to not have to worry about getting stuck (amazing how far "off road" a Saturn Vue can go).
Any suggestions and "reviews" of what you guys have used would be greatly appreciated. I hate tire shopping for my truck (have enough sets for the cars that I am probably good for another few years).
Coopers (yes, they still make em'-hit the indy shops) or Mich. LTX
leave the junk on, you've got a quad to build.

Safety issue Brad. I dont drive the bastard almost Quad 4 in the winter except for long drives.
I prefer to not use a Michelin tire due to past experiences with them. I will look into all decent options though (these included)
Well after some searching it looks as if my selection is very limited in the load range and size I am looking for. Damn, screwed again. Cooper tires are hard to find local, so some more searching will be needed.
bridgestone makes good tires, geolander i think i wouldnt use the mich tires for the life of me, they have never not suck.
If you are looking for a good tire at a good price, look at the Firestone Destination A/T.
They rate/review well, and are usual priced well too.
I have a set on the wife's Jeep GC and they work great year round and we get a lot of snow here.

Completely off topic....but if it is a 4x4. My company is the one that supplies the actuator that engages the front axle. Since they don't last worth a crap.....per the GM print. I can get you one cheap.
ON topic....
Yes get some coopers.

Still have the factory actuator surprisingly. Still a two wheel monster when screwing around (damn open diffs). Rarely use 4wd though so I may pick one up as an extra before winter.
If they were not dry rotting I would keep using the ones I have now, but I would not feel safe driving on them (probably 7-8 years old). I will look into teh Firestones. Once again BFG is another company that has disappointed me with their products to many times. I knwo these Coopers took a beating and the ones on my dads Vue do not have an easy life either. I may also look into Falken tire reviews for truck use.
try the bridgestone. i have been impressed by them on my s10's
Bridgestone/Firestone are on the "to look at list".
Anyone know who make "American Radial" tires? Guy at Belle Tire told me Cooper, but I have my doubts. Also told me that no Coopers are made in China or Mexico yet, I have already come across Coopers marked as made in China so that is a big ass lie. Its hard to find honest people anymore.

Stay the @!#$ away from Belle Tire, they'll @!#$ rip you off, I am as serious as a heart attack!
Go to tirerack.com and do some research and then price it out with the local tire sellers. If the local Discout Tire didn't run a weekend special I would've ordered the tires for the wife's Saturn from Tirerack and had my mechanic install them and still would've saved $50 even on the cheapest estimate I got.
Tire rack and discount dont usually list Cooper tires. I really do hate Belle but they are supposed to be a Cooper retailer. I already didnt trust them and after this round of lies I really dont. Unfortunately I do not have the ability to do my own tires anymore so I am stuck dealing with a tire place. Discount does list some Falkens, so I may look into them as well.

American Platinums are one of many of Cooper's Private brands...they are pretty good tires, and are made in the USA. My dad has a set on his Venture. And they are wearing well..
Belle Tire tends to be a PITA to deal with, but that also tends to depend on the location. I have a few by me that are just fine. Discount Tire rocks, but doesn't have the selection.....
Most of Cooper's tires are still US made, under brands like AP. Mastercraft, and Dean. The only tires that are China made are the Kendra, Starfire, and Futura (pep boys) private brands. And starfire is already on the way out....
For Cooper tires, hit up the Indy (Independent) tire shops. A good one to try is Uncle Ken's Tire's on either Telegraph or Michigan Ave. They tend to have the best prices with no BS.
Belle's AP tires would still be fine too....any Qs, hit me up.
They quoted me a set of American Car Care Prospector A/T 10 ply rated (I want E load rated tires) for $703 out the door (5 tires). If it is indeed made by Cooper in the US then I have no problem using them. I have found conflicting info online about who actually makes the Prospector A/Ts.

The local ones are Rip Off Artists. I was getting a set of tires from one while waiting for 6 hrs in their waiting room they kept telling other customers who just came in for one of their "cheap with a coupon" alignments, or to get a tire plugged or an oil change etc... that they needed hundereds of dollars in repairs blah blah blah. They told the lady that came in for an alignment she needed new shocks & struts, she replied I just got new shocks & struts 6 months ago which left the sales guy dumbfounded and just muttering "Uhhhhhhhhh". The guy that brought his tire in to get the hole plugged was told he needed a whole new set and that the tire wasn't pluggable.

As far as I know their truck tires are US made, unless they changed recently...

complete opposite of what I want or need in a tire. this is a DD for winter use and is on road only. Even if I did go "off road" a standard tire will do just fine. A couple years ago we did more off roading in my dads vue than most of the Jeep drivers around me will ever do.
