Can't have anything nice, (first scratches)
Monday, August 09, 2010 6:39 AM
Well, not even two months into owning the new Ram, I find out no matter how hard you try, sooner or later someone who can't park is going to try and park beside you.

Just saw this yesterday.

Any ideas of the best thing to do? Touch up paint on the little spot that went down to metal? Touch up the clear coat scratches too?

What would a body shop likely charge to fix it properly?

Thanks guys, I know some/most of you feel my pain, haha.

From the pic you have it looks like everything but the top scratch can be taken out with some rubbing compound

The bottom 3 are not scratches, they are missing chunks of clear coat. Can it still be rubbed smooth?

I plan on asking an old friend, who is a paint/body guy this week sometime.

didnt you know you are supposed to put the first scratch in it ? you do it just so things like this never happen

i actually watched someone back into a car and hit it with pretty good force and drive off , luckily we caught them and got their info , rental car and not from the US (happened to be at the air port) i about fell over when they said they didnt realize they hit anything :/

I hate to say it, but I have a feeling it happened at work. I need to take a tour around the lot and look for something red with grey paint on it, haha

I feel your pain. I had my car painted, and 2 weeks later somebody actually took some paint off my door with theirs. Its happened twice since then, less than a year later. people suck at considering other people's property.

You can try mequiars fine cut cleaner (number 2) this is the professional grade sold at napa, and carquest. It will not replace the clear but, clean up the surface stuff.I would go with a touch up after this. The professional grade mequairs is in a tan bottle and price is 12.00-15.00 bux a bottle roughly. This will clear up the initial visual damage but, if the clear is gone touch up of a body shop or ur buddy who does body work may suggest a completely different approach.Hope this helps and the number two fine cut cleaner is the bomb for removing blemishes or scuffs with out any complaints!I would polish it up after using the number two after the fact.

Do you know how many dings, small dents and paint scuffs I have on my car . . . I bought the damn thing brand new. Every single one of the marks I have, is caused by some jag bag in a f*cking parking lot. It is ridiculous.
