F23 Getrag similar to the Fiero 282 Getrag?

Anyone know it the mount and linkages are similar? Im working on an idea. The F23 seems more sturdy than the 282 and the F23 has a better gear ratio. 3.81 IIRC to 3.61 of the 282. They both bolt to an L67 if I get the 2200 F23.

Arent the flywheels the same? I would still need an F-body flywheel machined down for the 282. I cant remember the thickness but i know its the same as the 3800 J-body uses.

The fiero 282 and the f23 share a whole lot of nothing except the bellhousing pattern (2200 f23) if your thinking of putting an f23 into a fiero its alot of extra work but well worth it in my opinion, I have one of only 2 3800sc with an f23 in a fiero that Im aware of most of them stick to the 282 because gm didnt rate the f23 for a higher torque capacity so they assume its not stronger which the f23 is much more stout then the 282 but they dont care or listen.

So new mounts would need to be welded obviously?

Yes you'll need completely new transmission mounts, I made my own but the stock fiero getrag axles will work, You'll also need to come up with your own shift linkage which also involves reversing the up / down movement at the transmission, or running extremely long cables and coming at it from the back of the engine bay.

I do enjoy the car but the f23 does have fallbacks the gearing is to high for the 3800 ( in my opinion ) and it does add weight to an already heavy back end. The fiero isnt light weight for its size it weighs about the same as a jbody depending on options or notchback vs fastback. Theres times I wish I had swapped in my turbo ecotec instead to save a huge portion of weight instead of adding weight.

All in all its pretty fun and fast even with a stock 3800sc but the trans is fairly involved when used in a fiero.

Ive heard that an N/A gives the car a perfect 50/50 weight ratio.

NA 3800? not happening they weigh pretty much the same as the supercharged version and still heavier then the stock v6 which is closer to 47/53 weight ratio the ecotec would probably buy you the weight needed to get there if you moved the battery to the front under the spare as well.

No no the Eco. The aluminum block makes the weigh perfect.

Oh well then yes it would be close even with all the turbo's additional weight, those cast iron v6's (2.8 or 3.8) are some heavy bastards.

Oh hell ya. I tried catching a 3800 block coming off an engine stand. Bad bad idea. Bruised my legs and cuts my hands.
