Back home in Michigan, took a great job that involves a commute so with winter coming I've put the Cobalt into a different state and am either A: going to roll some negative equity and get the hell out of it, before B: pouring more money into it and being unhappy. 75k on stock clutch, going to need summer tires come Spring, etc. etc.
Have no definite replacement in mind, but either way I'm going to lose some money and take a small hit despite which route.
With that said I prepped it for trade-in,
or a revamp, not to mention
winter.
Looking stockish-
I promise one thing, it's my last GM FWD once gone
.
Jeep Liberty's hold their value. Along with a few other small SUV.
I was amazed I went to the bank to see how much my Jeep was worth because I wanted to clear up my credit card bill. I bought it in 2006-07 for $14,995 with 34,000 miles. Now today with 81,000 miles its still according to the bank worth $13,550. My cavalier when I had it oh god I dont even want to think of that thing. GM FWD are worthless and dont hold resale value at all.
Thanx Charles
My 05 Cav was work 3k with 70k miles on it ROFLBBQ
I can def understand the pain
Being offered 7 for mine as a common offer for trade-in, they give me 8 and it's gone and I'll take the negative equity over a clutch and tires
.
The Ion RL wheels really pop in this color though. I have my wingless trunk and Eibach's still, listed them but not rushing them away quite yet. It's one of those "if the right thing" comes along deals.
Dump it for a Kia Forte-they really want trade ins for other cars, and should be the most willing to cut you a better deal.
Keep the Forte for a few years, then on to something better....
If you do trade in, don't make lateral move. At least upgrade....
I'm not knocking Kia, but c'mon... he'll get bored with that too probably
Dude...
...did you really tell this guy to trade in his boosted Cobalt for a...Kia?
Lol my dad got a 09 Kia Sorento V6 and it is tits man... i really can't say too much bad about it for the price.
BUUUUT I LURRRV your car but i want to see what you can do with something else. Did you mention anything particular that you are looking into or are you keeping that a secret? haha.
The cycle repeats
When are you going to keep a car?
I say buy a pickup.
Yeah, yeah.
Nothing in particular, I'm looking at a few things.
The big thing being a more professional job, and a commute involving such. Plus the possibility of other toys down the line. I'm pretty much set on stepping away from the "scene" per-say. However I'm still going to need something economic.
We'll see, may as well just wait until Spring.
As for th kia idea.. I was gonna go that route.. they offered me 3k for my cav with 62k miles.. I laughed and left.
Look at the newer legacies and imprezas, can't go wrong with awd, they look more "professional". They also hold great re-sale value, I got a great deal on mine with rebates and they gave me $4500 for my cav, but hey I'm biased. I average 26mpg in my car with a lot of city driving, so it's not bad for 170hp and awd, and you can snag a good deal on a slightly used wrx
buy a buick. i'm sure you would even want to mod that tho.
all it needs is a clutch and tires? how does that justify a new car payment? The only way that car will pay you back is with miles if you keep it. If it was me, i'd take advantage of the more cushy job to pay off the cobalt ahead of schedule and think about a replacement when the title is in your hand. Unless you're really foaming at the mouth for something new and great, running a used car into the ground is always better than a new/bigger payment + negative equity.
PS, i am a fan of your car, but my adviced is not biased in that respect
I've only paid on this car for 17 months, the comparison was money versus negative equity. Overall I wouldn't be putting myself any further into anything than I already am, actually I'd owe less than the possible trade-in's value and my payment may increase $30 a month. I would probably see that $30 in fuel savings alone.
I have an equal list of pros and cons at this point.

Yep....but I thinking long term. Get a cheap lease (offering those up and down around here), and just get something for the comute. (I wouldn't dare drive something decent year round with roads here anyways), save a few bucks, then get whatever he wants.
That's all. Or just drive the Balt into the ground.....

Excellent choice good sir. Sold my last GM in August, haven't looked back since.

I don't know what your guys' problem is, my car has only depreciated $500 in 4 years.... lol
Paying someone to install parts and bragging about it being fast, is like watching someone bang your wife and being proud to raise their kids.
^^^ The problem is we bought our cars new!

+1
New car prices are getting retarded....

Pretty sure you said that when you bought the Cobalt. We'll see I guess.
2010 Honda Fit LX
Off topic, but i saw a new cruze with a sticker of 24k. wtf? who wants to pay 24k for a GM compact? Probably loose 10k on that in the first year.
On topic, i agree that new cars are the worst investment in the world, but if you bite into one, the best bet is to finish it and let it pay you back over time, especially if you have the means/opportunity to pay off early.
Define economical? in the 50k miles that are on my car the only non aftermarket items replaced on the car was a Evap purge solenoid (30 bucks) and front brakes (200 or so), tires, oil changes and thats stuff that has to be replaced on any car.
I get 36mpg, I'd be hard pressed to find anything with this type of power, reliability and gas mileage at any cost in any class of car. What is the real "value" in something else that while possibly having slightly more resale value, simply doesn't compete at all on a daily basis?
