Hey guys. i dont make it around here too much anymore, but i figured i would brag about my latest new vehicle. before this i was driving an '89 S15 4x4. crank windows, broken radio, a real beater.
well, i replaced it last friday with a '97 S10 ZR2, and so far i love it. i had been thinking about picking up a car instead because i was sick of my little straight cab truck with a crappy interior. but i am definitely glad i picked up this truck. it took me a couple of months of checking craigslist multiple times a day, but i got it for a steal, so it was well worth the wait.
on with the pictures
the old
the new
both together
the new truck has the normal chevy rust spots on the cab corners, so i will need to replace those, but everything else on it is in great condition.

it's not how fast you go, it's how you get there that counts.
ZZP XP cam, 1.6 rockers, 105# springs, speedbuilt FWI, 3.3" modular pulley, TOG headers,
3" exhaust, flomatched injectors
'97 GTP 14.06@100.6mph pre cam w/ 3.5" pulley, I/E
watch out when my dad's got up to 200,000 miles we were replacing wheel bearings like dentures in a nursing home.
i know i will be replacing wheel bearings eventually. but i am not too worried about it. just something you have to do.

Gah i love the s10 ZR2s.... I almost bought one not too too long ago.... Great buy man.
just keeping it stock for now and using it as a daily driver. i may take it off roading a bit, but nothing hard core... at least not for now

isnt that the truth. My sisters and then eventually my zr2 blazer was eating up wheel bearings at 170Kish.
Nice find though man. And i dont know why, but i actually prefer the 95-97 front end over the 98 and newer. its weird, I know.
Yeah I understand. The nice thing about them isbthat they come stock with 3'' of lift and 31s. The downside is that there is not a huge aftermarket selection for them and I think the biggest you can go on the stock suspension is like 33s.
We had to replace every single ball joint and steering arm in the front of my brothers truck at like 107k (I think). It would walk all over the road.
I like them in general. I just cant stand the feeling like Im constantly going to tip over. Idk what it is. I dont get it in my dads Trailblazer or my friends Ram 2500 Cummins. Just the Sonoma.
They go through wheel bearings cause GM put 3" of lift and 31" tires without any upgrades to the driveline. Lets see...170K on a wheel bearing that's turning 31" of tire, and it's the same bearing that's found in EVERY OTHER S-10 from the 2200 to the vortec...yeah. It's gonna eat wheel bearings after a while.
Why can't you run anything taller than a 33" tire? It's an independent front suspension. Anything bigger, and you're just begging to break half shafts. Heck you're pushing it with the 33's. That and you don't need anything bigger than a 31". My father's old 4 door S10 4x4 w/ vortec and 32's went anywhere he wanted it to go. Only complaint? They're long and like to high center because of a low breakover.

that is a completely false statement. they run larger wheel bearings, an 8.5" ring gear in the back, 7.25 in front with a 3.73 gear ratio, better shocks, rear locker, and a track bar. the wheel bearings do go bad between 150K and 200K miles, but that isnt that unheard of. my wife replaced two wheel bearings in her 2000 BMW at 90K miles, and it was a bone stock unmolested car. these are mini trucks that get beat on with large tires. things like wheel bearings and steering go bad.

turning radius is why you dont run a 33" tire. you cant turn the wheel lock to lock without hitting the inner fender. 33's can be put on a stock ride height ZR2, but you have to modify the fenderwells. but for my use, 31's are pleanty large, so i am not too interested in putting 33's on.

Nice truck!
I have always liked those, And even almost got one last year. But the Bravada had leather, more interior space, and a better price.
So my old lady and I bought the Bravada.
Also, Selling the S-15? PM me if so

Yeah i know you are justifiying the truck and they are great little rides, but i really did replace 3 drivers side front wheel bearings in one year, after it hit the 175k mark. my family has had 3 s10s and they are awesome little trucks. we pulled my brothers f150 out fo the mud with one.
I have new wheel bearings coming for the bravada as we speak
