Have the opprotunity to pick up a 5-door svt focus with 34,000 original miles. Just seeing if any of you had thought or any experience with these cars.
Questions?
Are they reliable?
What to look out for?
Any concerns for these models?
I would be using it as a DD putting 60 miles a day on it.
Anytips and thoughts would be good thanks.

They are reliable spunky little cars. I wouldn't really say that they are anything special. But the SVT is leaps and bounds ahead of a standard Focus. Also they are pretty fun to drive.
i enjoyed every second of the 03 i drove once a few years back. the 6 speed allows the thing to get up and go very fast. the one i drove had a couple bolt ons, i would beat it in my 97z24 every time... until 109 and then bye bye the focus went... pretty damn quickly i might add.
plenty of room, styling is badass plus i always liked the stock SVT rims they put on them.
id say you got a great car.. and with only 34k? it should stay that way for years to come.

Awesome little cars. Now get it and go buy the rousch stage 3 turbo kit for it and boost that puppy. Believe me. she will hold it all day everyday daily. My buddy had one with the exact same turbo kit and he drove it daily everyday. Very very very fun cars. Even better with boost.
Cool, thanks I may pull the trigger today. I will let you all know how it goes. Yes, I will post pics.

my friend had one. Blew up 2 motors in it, he did alot of work to it and it still wasnt that fast
My friend has an 04 Focus SVT. Its a five door hatch with the European appearance package. So it has the full leather Recaro seats HID foglights, and the Gunmetal 15 spoke wheels. Good decent car. We turbocharged his and it runs about 14 flat at 8 Psi. The best bang for the Buck mods for them are an underdrive crank pulley, cold air intake, and a lightweight flywheel.
You gotta watch and make sure yo get the right oil filter for them. The VCT solenoid on the intake can is very finicky about oil pressure .get one specifically for the SVT. It used .to be a Motorcraft FL-2005. They discontinued it and supposedly the FL-400s is the replacement. DO NOT USE THIS FILTER! The bypass valve in the filter is the wrong pressure. It will affect the VCT solenoid. Use a premium filter such as a BOSCH distance plus, or purolator pure one.
I know tons about these cars, so if u get it and have any questions, just ask.

Wow thanks for the info. I plan to use it as a commuter car not anything ´fast´ just a point A to B type of car.

I've had quite a few friends who've had them, one even being or Org member here, and they've ALL had nothing but bad luck. popped motors, generally running like @!#$ no matter how much you take care of them and baby them. completely turned me off to them, which is sad cause I do like the styling.. and I'm a hatch whore to boot

I dont know anyone who owned an SVT but pretty much everyone I know who has bought a regular focus (not including the newer ones) had nothing but problems...
Yeah the few friends that Ive had with focus' have all said that because of the rear suspension set up that they eat through rear tires....something to look at so when you replace them get some sort of warranty package to replace them cheaper.
Yikes!!! thanks.... I will have to do a bit more research.

One thing I've yet to see.
These cars handle beautifully! I had one for a weekend, and enjoyed every bit of it.
Clutch/tranny issues worried me, but with proper maintenance and driving I'm pretty confident in them. As someone mentioned, it is leaps and bounds above a regular Focus and the car shows some good build quality, afterall, majority is Euro making parts also a bit more pricey versus your standard Focus.
However, great handling, 6 speeds, I'd do it.
Cool, its good to hear all sides and opinions on the car. I appreciate it fellas.

Hmmm Grandam > Focus and Malibu > Focus I fail to see how a Focus is better then any of my cars minus when I had the Cavalier. Once you grow up and move on from 2 door ecno@!#$ boxes you will realize the need for 4 doors and decent cars that last. I also enjoy not having my head hit the roof and not having to be leaning like a ghetto hood rat to not feel cramped.
Disclaimer:
Dey see me Trollin' Dey hatin' for trollin dey trying to catch me ridin dirty.
They are a great handling car, but they suck for straight line speed

Yeah, people keep saying that they handle great. I just need it to handle 60 miles a day 6 days a week! hahahahha

ok well for one, you cant blame a Cavalier cause you're too tall for it. that was your own purchase decision and doesnt degrade the value of the car. two, if your Cavalier didnt last.. once again, thats your fault for not taking care of it. of the 9 I've had, none of them were problematic aside from my current black one that was previously owned by a guy who beat the @!#$ out of it on a daily basis. regular maintenance is all I've ever needed to keep mine running great. now the Focus on the other hand, is a different story

once i grow up? ive got two kids and they get in and out of my '2 door econshi
tbox' just fine. im a 'larger' guy and im not feeling cramped one bit. i dont see any need for four doors.
i just found it funny you were knocking on the LOOKS of a focus when you yourself drive something that isnt exactly 'the new hotness' if you catch my drift.
