i have a weird noise from a 3.8 v6 99 lumina gtz with a 03 engine. the car has 256xxx miles and the motor about 140,000 miles. the sound goes away at about 2000 rpm and i typically only notice it after the car is warm and at idle. Generally i would jump at crank or rod bearings, but it goes away as the engine goes faster, normally those get louder. any thoughts?
That would be a rod knock from what I can hear.

I was afraid of that. I think at this point I'm gonna start workin on another car, and run heavier oil till she dies. Any input? 256k out of a car ain't bad. I'll still keep and fix her up though. She was a wedding gift and has seen us through it all.
so i decided to keep running the car until she died, and she did exactly that yesterday. the trans kissed off. if its cold it will move about 100 yards and then stop. the knocking sound is completely gone now.
on another note, the cavalier pulled it home!
