I'm sure this has been discussed before, and I think I remember....you can use an auto ecu to drive a manual but not a manual ecu to drive and auto correct??

Correct. The manual ECU will start a auto car, but it does not have the info for the tranny. We have done this a few times (putting a auto ECU in a manual car and the only problem being the check engine light for the tranny. It will throw a good 6-10 different codes for different things from the auto tranny.

Both ECU's are PHYSICALLY the same, just the programming is different. You can flash the ECU to/from auto and manual all you want.

This is why the 97 5 speed density PCM would not let my car shift after we flashed it from my 99
