Its been determined that my computer is not working properly and needs to be replaced. I was told today that a Chevrolet dealership covers it under warranty for 8 years 80,000 mi. (My 02 Z24 has 71k) but has a Rebuilt Title. This is my only means of transportation and school starts next week so i NEED my car. I need to know:
1. Is it still covered under warranty (being R title)?
2. How much would this cost if it isn't?
3. Is it something I can swap myself or have a small repair shop do?
Thanks for helping me out, its appreciated!!!!!!
1. Call the dealer and ask...
2. Call the dealer and ask...
3. You can put in an ECU very easily ( I can swap one out in less than 15 minutes). HOWEVER, if you buy a NEW ECU from the dealer, they do not come programmed, so it would need to be flashed before installation. No, HPT cannot flash a blank ECU.

Buy stuff from CarCustoms Ebay! Won't be disappointed!
So if I put one in, I have to have it flashed first at a dealership?
I would suggest getting one from a junkyard. Is your car drivable currently?? What is it doing or not doing?
FU Tuning
It has a high idle problem. It idles anywhere from 1400-1900 rpm's, and the car decelerates reaaaaaally slow and almost seems like its stuck in cruise control. I had my TPS sensor replaced twice now, but the problem is still linked to it. My car can be idling at about 1500 and when I unplug the TPS it drops down to 900 which is perfect. I talked to my mechanic and he said its the PCM..
Now I just unplugged the TPS, hooked it back up and I have a Check Engine Light........
I'm not so sure it is a PCM problem.
FU Tuning
Your PCM might need to be re-calibrated. I have the opposite problem my cav idles LOW. 450-500 rpm. I had the dealer re-flash and calibrate my PCM and it corrected the problem for about 6 months, but then went back to how it was before.

Does anyone else think a reflash would help?
honestly, I don't think you've tried everything to rule out a vacuum leak on the motor somewhere. there's lots of places where you could be getting a leak at.
buy my PCM... it's going to be cheaper than getting a reflash done at the dealer.

Wouldn't I still need a reflash? I had a shop check for all leaks and they found nothing at all.
nope... unless you're an auto.
my Z24 has ABS, A/C and it's a 5 speed LD9.
the only thing you'd have to do is the Passkey (or whatever it's called) re-learn.

Well why did you take it out in the first place? lol
Have you checked the IAC, the TB. I have known the TB plates to stick. Have you checked the throttle cable as well?
FU Tuning
The TB plate has been checked and closes completely. Also the IAC has been replaced and the throttle cable has been checked. Now today, I disconnected the TPS for 45 mins, then disconnected the battery for an hour. Put it all back together and its idling and driving perfect. BUT, I know it will only last for a day or 2 and the idle will shoot back up. Can anyone explain why its doing this??
when you disconnect the battery, you're clearing the PCM's "short term memory". it's just doing a re-learn before it detects an issue and shoots the idle back up.

Does this prove that its a PCM problem though?
I don't think it does. that's one of the things we tried when I replaced my TPS.

What else could it possibly be??
My buddy has the same exact problem with his car. High idle, seems like it's in cruise control, exactly how you described it. His is a '00 Z24 5 speed. He also replaced the TPS and IAC, neither of which helped the problem. I went over with HPT and found some weird engine codes...don't remember what the numbers were, but one description was "Loss of Communication". The other codes started with a "B". Dunno what that could be. Anyway, I used HPT to read his VCM for the hell of it. After the VCM read was done, it started the car and it drove perfect (although the engine codes were still there). 3 months later, it did the same thing. Once again, I read the VCM and it ran good again for about a month. I have no idea what is wrong...
