tune question
Tuesday, August 21, 2007 6:53 AM
Not going to lie but I am a noob. I have used the search tool but couldn't find anything that suited my needs. First question: I have a 99 sunfire with the 2.4 and a 95 cav with the 2.3 I have yet to choose witch one I will race. Any suggestions? What would be the pro or cons on each? Now the tuning questions: I plan on putting a fuel cell in the trunk what would be a good pump to use that won't starve the engine at WOT? Also will hp tuner support me having a fuel cell? If so can I get some one to tune it for me I live in Illinois. If hp tuner won't work what are my options then? What ever it is keep SIZE in mind because it is a all stock class I race in, I would have to hide whatever I put in there. HP tuner is invisible I would certainly like to use that if possible. Lastly would I have to have the cat and the rest of the exhaust for hp tuner? I have the complete exhaust on the sunfire and a straight pipe on the cav. I think thats it. Thanks for you input.

HPT won't work on the 95, they only support years 97-05 for J's. There is no programming for fuel cell or whatever type of fuel delivery you have, all it cares about is that it gets to the injectors. You don't have to use an exhaust system with it, you can use it to turn the codes off that it would throw by not having the exhaust, so it would actually help you if you wanted to remove the exhaust.

Tunercat supports the 95. There may be a definition file for Tunerpro, also. These are chips so you'd need an eprom burner and eraser at a minimum.

I would suspect very little unless you also have hidden the 14:1 CR pistons needed for that high of octane...But with pump gas, you could expect some really nice gains if you know how to tune.

"Youth in Asia"...I don't see anything wrong with that.

Jet / Hypertech rarely do much above stock.

Racer guys always think more timing is better. Learn to tune with one fuel and use that fuel. Expensive race gas isn't helpful for stock or mostly stock street engines.

I believe my compression ratio to fall somewhere in the 10to1 area. I hear you on the fact that it wont do much power wise but it is the only gas available at the track. Plus it smells good. And 25 cents each gallon goes to the point fund so it's kinda helping everyone out anyways. No matter what I can have three 5 gallon jugs of pump gas and something happens to where I end up buying race gas anyway. The difference on the track is about 1 tenth a lap. Witch is the difference of eating breakfast that morning or not. ok now in all seriousness. Could I change over the 95 cav to a newer ecm to be able to use hp tuner. Now that I wrote that I don't think it will work but it's a shot in the dark
