Im mainly talking about the Pre 00 2.4 guys.. I mean Im sure people were running very happy boosted before HPT and standalone.. What other options are there for me and my 99. FMU?
*I Know about putting the GM S/C flash on me car and having all the warning lights, no tach and no knock sensor(Will be trying that when my HPT credits get here)
*I know about trying to find 97 speed density PCM(Ive had no luck with that whatsoever)
Im trying to actually Run the car like I built it.. I've been running 10psi for a while now but my turbo isn't even efficient at that pressure.. It sucks because I can't actually get on it before I start to lean out, my 680cc injectors are maxed out.. Soon as I stomp on it I have to let off.. (so whats the point)
So, are their any other suggestions? I probably know the answer, you guys are going to suggest standalone
Thanks for any help.

680cc injectors maxed out on 10 psi?? What duty cycle are they running at? The first turbo kits for J's were run on FMU's. It can be done safely but is not the best way. Have you tried to do a fake 2 bar map with HPT?
FU Tuning
John, not sure what the duty cycle is at because my FORMER tuner has that info.. Whininz will be tuning me when these HPT credits come in. So we'll see then.. No, havent faked a 2 bar.. I actually have a 2 bar map sensor thanks to Brian.
Forgive the question, but since I have a 2bar map could I just plug that in, tune and be good for 14.7 psi with no problems?

NO. Since you do not have either the GM reflash or a 97 Speed Density flash your car can not add fuel based off boost. YOu are still TPS x RPM. You will still need to do a fake 2 bar map. I find it hard to believe you are maxing 680c injectors out with only 10 psi.
FU Tuning
Yeah i see what your saying, im just basing that off of what my former tuner told me.. He's not used to J-bodies, but works with the other GM vehicles.. I may not be maxxed out, he probably just doesn't know what the heck he's doin lol.. So yea, hopefully Mat can hook me up and give me a tune so I can run the car how its supposed to be ran.
Then ill know all my info on how my car is running.. That tuner that I used has my file so he's keeping all that info, thank goodness I havent paid him hehe

When I put the S/C on my car I was running a Cartech (BEGI) adjustable FMU and an Apexi S-AFC,with a 2bar MAP and 320cc injectors. It took forever to get the tune dialed in. Then when HP came out I switched over to a '97-98 PCM and faked a 2bar tune. That made alot of difference in how easy it was to get a good tune and increased about 7hp. Then when I switched over to the '00 ECU and S/C reflash everything came together real well. The throttle response from vac. to boost was just seamless. Picked up another 10hp. and probably could have picked up couple more by playing with the water injection but I realized how limited the M45 was.
Now I've just got to get enough time to finish the turbo install and get the car back on the road.

So its looking like the best bet for me is to either fake the 2bar map, or install the 00 S/C pcm that I have on my car and deal with all warning lights and no tach.
Gary, when you faked the 2bar, what map sensordid you have installed?

The one off a GTP S/C.
You MIGHT not lose your tach if you go with a '00 ECU. On a '97-'98 PCM,plug C2(the BLACK plug),pin #10 is a WHITE wire. This is your TACH signal. On a '99> they don't use this pin for some reason. I just kept that wire plugged in when I flashed to a '99 and used 440cc Volvo injectors (high impedence) and my factory Tach kept right on working. Then when I changed over to my digital gauges and a '00 ECU I tapped the wire for the TACH that was in the fuse box under the hood and still had a TACH reading.
Hope that all makes sense...

Sweet, kinda makes sense
but Devon(3800 s/c cavy) will understand it.. Ill have him help me out withe pinouts and stuff
Thans guys..

Old man you just made me SMILE!
Could you explain a little more.
I'll will be running my 99 ecu with a 00+ tune, and would really like to have a functioning tach. Also you have any knock sensor issues...ie not working?

I used the
BLACK and
RED wires from the EGR plug (since I had eliminated the EGR) for the Knock Sensor. Just repinned them into the C1(Blue) connector on the PCM at pin 34(Black Wire) and pin 32(Red Wire). Then used crimp on connectors at the Knock Sensor so I could reverse the wires if they were hooked backwards.
Now because the Newer 2 wire Knock Sensor is smaller then the '95?-'98 1 wire Knock Sensor I machined an adapter plug like this...
It screws into the block where the older sensor was then the newer one screws into it.
As far as this whole
"Flashing a '00 S/C tune to a '99" thing goes,if I remember correctly I tried to do it to 2 different PCM's and it always showed a "Operating Soft Ware Incompatible" or some such message on my HPTuners program. I'm pretty sure I had e-mailed Ron and asked him about it and he said the Hardware was different between the '99 and '00 PCM/ECU's that's why they (GM) couldn't release the S/C for the '97-'99 cars, only the '00 and up.

Well my 99 and 00 ECU are physically the same. So I guess I'll have to give it the old try. Also Luke Heier and J S are running 00 programming on their 99 ECU's. The knock sensor not working, and the tach are two big concerns for me.
Also forgot about ruen and his 99 running 00+ software.

im sorry, im sure its gotta be in the reading somewhere, but its all combinding together and giving me a headache...
can one physically just plug in a 00+ VCM into say a 98 and only have the issues with the knock sensor and the gauges? i mean will all the systems still work properly?
Do not know what the part number the PCM is in 98, but the 99-02 have the EXACT same one. At least my 99 is the same as the 00-02 PCM. If the 98 pcm is the same as the newer one....you should only have issues with the knock sensor and gauges.....in theory.

Thanks for any help.
You might also remember a time when 300 whp was but mere pipe dreams...and I'm not an avid fan of HPT capabilities with the JBody pcm, but it is undeniable, the amount of impact it has had on pushing the J-body performance to new heights.

"Youth in Asia"...I don't see anything wrong with that.
AFPR, BEGI FMU, Ford Brown tops, and by far the thing that made the most change in the drivability was the heated O2 sensor. Ran fine, not perfect. Good enough to trust it, yes, not good enough to make any huge power. I do know a kid here in a town close to me that was running nothing but an AFPR, SAFC, and 550cc injectors, and had it running fairly well. I am almost positive that kid would have set the 2.4 WHP record of the time, it was scary fast, it would roll them over doing 65 down the highway. It was a 97, 5sp. He wasnt here on the org, and he didnt take it to the track, so nobody knew of him.
Thanks for the info guys... Still listening... Also, still waiting for my damn HPT credits to come in

WHITECAVY - If your tuner is good you should be able to swap to a 97 speed density file and combine that with an FMU to get a great tune. The only thing missing out of the 97 file is the IPW modifier table which allows you to raise the fuel under boost... the same exact thing an fmu does... I know it's incredibly difficult to find a 97 auto file but there has to be one out there somewhere...

Thanks for the info Jimmy, yea im still looking for a file.. Not giving up on that yet.. We actually flashed a 97 speed density file on my car a couple months ago, but it was a manual
Flash went well, but the car whouldn't shift gears
