12.8:1 AFR on n/a 2200?

I just had a wideband installed on my car. Innovate LC-1 to be exact.

I plan on boosting the car soon, and the WBO2 is going to stay int he spot that its in, so I figured Id throw it on there to see what the car is doing n/a with my listed mods.

I've read and heard that you gain more power if youre leaner. I think 12.8:1 is a bit rich.

I plan on getting HPT very soon, I want to try and tinker with the car n/a and see if I can get any gains out of it at all. I really want to learn some tuning basics and play with the software before i install my turbo. For me, hands on/in has always been the best learning method.

Anywho. What are your thoughts on this AFR? Should I, Can I lean it out some and expect to see some small gains?

in like 2 places i read that the "optimal" AFR is something like 13.9:1 WOT, is that accurate?

Just looking for some all around info, it struck me as WAAY too rich when I saw it.

Thanks
Matt

And I just drove it again, it dipped to 12.6:1 for a second.

This is when the motor is completely warmed up if that makes a difference.

Under WOT you do not want 13:9:1. Maybe 13:0 to 13:2 at the most.

Maybe it was 12.9 I was thinking of.

Maybe its spot on, I just thought it was a bit rich.

I will probably just leave it alone and wait till I get the turbo on and start tuning from there. Ive been reading way too much stuff lately and my brain is toasted a little.

I would assume it runs that way (a bit rich) to be on the "safe" side of things.

Thanks for the reply sir.

well im at the same spot the OP is at i just installed my lc1 and took if for a drive and under wot im at 13.9:1. and cruising im anywhere from 13.0 to 16.8

and to make sure my sensor is running correctly.. i have this ?
when im driving my led for the WB is on continuously (doesn't blink) does that mean its working correctly? i read in the manual its supposed to stay on after a free air calibration but it didn't say it was supposed to be on all the time after that?

and i do have hpt but they haven't sent me an update yet to unlock my car......

Yes the LED stays on all the time. 13:9:1 is way lean.

There is no "magic" number where every engine is going to make the best power. A good way to find your optimal AFR at WOT is to make multiple runs on a dyno and compare the different air fuels.

Example:

12.5
12.8
13.0
13.2

Compare the results of those four runs, in some places you may see more torque due to being a little richer. What I typically do is leave it a little rich until torque begins to drop(after 5200) and then I lean it out a little.
