97 ecu question
Monday, August 18, 2008 10:42 AM
hey .org people .. i just have few questions .. i have a 96 z24 which is the only one with ecu problems at the time of boosting due to the alpha N config and dont know if this ecu could be re-flashed with the GM s/c am i right ? .. (sucks!!) well i know you guys swap ecus to the 97 which it has the capability to be re-flashed .. but my question is .. i have read that this particular ecu 97 has both configs alpha and SD .. and the only way to know it is by looking at the settings with HPT .
is there an specific model either sunfire or cav .. where actually comes with SD for sure ? thats my first question
no matter which config comes .. either alpha o SD .. could i still re-flash that 97 ecu with GM S/C ? thats my second question

im asking this because on my current 96 ecu i had a SAFCII and dont know but seems to drive my map crazy .. thinking because its alpha n config .. correct my if im wrong ..

thanks guys .. really appreciate your help.

Ok the 96 ECU can not be tuned by HPT. 97 ecu can be tuned by HPT, but can not be flashed with a Gm reflash for the charger. The Gm reflash is for 00+ ecu's (some have used it on 99's), but can't be used on 97 and 98 ecu's.

Next the SD (speed Density ) ecu's are hard to find. You would be better off getting a SD file and loading it to the 97 ECU, over finding a actual 97 SD ecu.

If it was me I would not worry too much about the SD file/ecu with a M45 charger. The amount of boost you will be running can easily be tuned on a alpha-N ecu. I have tuned a GM charged 99 with the alpha N and had no issues.

Hope this helps.
