Flash, What is it?

Hey, tonight i heard a term ive never heard of. flash the ecu? what is it and what does it do? I have a 2004 cavalier, is it possible to do?

That's how you 'chip' these cars. They don't have a removable PROM, so you have to reflash the program.

The memory on the ECU is also referred to as "flash memory", so when you reprogram the memory, you "reflash" or "flash" the memory. As SHOoff said, these cars don't have removable PROM's, they have permenant EEPROM's. EEPROM stands for "electronically eraseable programmable read-only memory". The method of electronically erasing and reprogramming is known as flashing or reflashing.
