turbo tuning
Tuesday, May 26, 2009 4:31 PM
hey whats up, so mu car is in the process of getting the turbo installed, well actually all the parts are installed, but the shop is telling me they dont know how to to tune it, ok so i bought the moates ostrich 2.0 and the innovate wideband. My question is do i need anything else to be able to tune my car. I have a 95 2.3. the shop is telling me it will need to be reflashed first, is this true. they are telling me they will have to send it to another shop and they are going to charge $600 to tune it, Any help with this would be greatly appreciated, also is there is anyone in the southeastern part of PA, (im in philly) that could help out i would appreciate it and would pay u for ur time.

$600 dollars is not bad for a true dyno tune by someone who really knows what they are doing. Then again you don't want anyone to tune it unless they really know what they are doing. The tune is the most important part so you'll need to understand more about it in order to qualify someone to do the work for you.

Agreed, check the credentials of the one who wants to tune it, but for 600 that sounds pretty good. I hate tuning

First thing, if they say they need to flash it first, walk away from the shop. You don't flash our OBDI chips. You erase them with UV light or burn them with a prom burner. You don't even need to do that with the ostrish. Ask Scott about how it works.

I would honestly learn how to use it myself instead of paying 600+ $ to have it tuned by a shop that tells me that it need to be flashed and they'll have it tuned by another shop.

Spend some time on quad4forums.com and they will help you alot more.

You will need some stuff from here.

Got some of this yet?

(they dont have BURN1 anymore?)

This would be a good start.

But for a dyno tune shop, they should know this.

the ZIF is the first thing I would get. It's worth the few dollars it cost.

yeah i told them at the shop that it does not need to be reflashed, but they were sure of it, so i referred them to this site and told them to do their own research, right now the turbo is fully installed and the wideband o2 is also. i dont really have any experience tuning so im not sure this is something i want to mess with. But from my understanding i would have to pull the ecm from the car, desoder the holes where the eprom goes and soder the chip socket into place. then connect the cable going from the socket to the ostrich. plug the ostrich into a laptop. and from there the best that i could get is a street tune right.? Is it even safe to start the car now the way it is without any tune. the shop they referred me to does gm cars but im not sure if they have ever worked on the 95 ecm, if anyone would be will ing to help that is near by i would appreciate it $$$

using the ostrish I don't think I would use it but changing chips as often as I was doing it was a PITA.
