i cant seem to find this info anywhere.... so to remedy the EGR ses light from the HO mani, i hear you can put in a computer from a 99+ 2.4. what all is required in that, do you just plug it in and go?
As far as I know, just plug in the new PCM and the light should go bye bye.
I was a retard, and now I'm permanently banned.
that would be sweet. is there anyone out there that has actually done it that can verify this?
I'm interested in this too. I have the damn egr simulator and it just sucks.
i believe there is more work involved but if i'm wrong thats cool because i have the engin wiring harness and pcm sitting infront of me
What is the deal with the knock sensor for this swap?
you have to drill it out because its a differant size than the 96-98
need mmore input aka bump
I know that a few guys have done this. Can ayone please write a step by step on this?
How to install the 99 PCM
1. Put in 99 PCM (or reflash yours to 99 vin).
2. Locate the EGR wire in connector one (C1-66 Black), and the Knock sensor in connector one (C1-33 Drk Blue) and remove the pins from the connectors (pull the backs off, and the blue clear inside, push pins out)
3. Locate the new locations for the new wires (C1-32 and C1-34)
4. Put the Drk Blue wire in C1-34, and the Black in C1-32.
5. Put the plugs back together, and install the PCM.
6. Locate both the Knock sensor plug, and EGR plug. Pull the Black wire out of the EGR harness. Either run it to the Knock sensor location (pull back wire loom) or add wire to it.
7. Cut the connector off the stock Knock sensor, and wire that to the Orange wire on the new Knock sensor. Wire the Black wire to the White wire on the Knock sensor.
8. Install knock sensor.
Done.

I *might* be wrong on the knock sensor plug itself, as in which wire goes to which, but I'm 90% sure I'm right
Hows that for a write up?

***Edit***
With the HP tuners software, you can actually remove the fault codes, so they dont set lights...... so no need to wire in the new PCM (unless doing it for the High Impedance injector driver)

Does anyone have the part # for the 99 pcm for a 5 spd?
there really isnt a part number...... pretty much all J's use the same computer, its just the programming inside that is different. I usually use a VIN number for a vehicle of the year I want (IE 99 5 speed) and flash the PCM to that VIN. GM stores all the VCI numbers by VIN on their network, so you end up with the last update to that VIN.

Brian is right, spotbee is wrong.
I've done it, and yes you'll need a '99+ knock sensor (2 wire) to replace your current (1 wire). Nice part is they use different / dead pins on their respective ECU so no issues. When running the pre-99 ECU it will read from the 1 wire and ignore the 2 wire, and vise versa for the 99' version.
HO manifold, no CEL.
Good luck,
Matt S.
Is it safe to say that a 99 to 01 pcm are the same? Thanks for clarifying these questions guys.
nope..... 99 still uses most of the 97-99 programing...... the 00+ use a bcm and doesnt do everything the 99- did.
