Megasquirt Gas Mileage

Just wondering why I've heard that MS users suffer from bad gas mileage.

Something about the injectors always batch firing.

Any truth in this?

MS doesn't do sequential injection, but I don't know if it really affects your gas mileage...

14.425 @ 97.833 mph stock + GMPP s/c on drag radials.

I think you can set it up to do a bank fire, can you not? Where it will do 2 and 2 as opposed to all 4 at once?

MPFI and SFI shouldnt show a HUGE difference in MPG. SFI is MPFI much over 3000rpm anyways.

Im pretty sure its always 2 and 2. I dont thing its ever all at the same time. if it was, it wouldnt have us se hook up 2 banks. also although its trew that cavs use sequintal at idle and low rpm's they switch over a like a g. ethier way if you noticing a differecne you did something wrong.

are you saying that if you are getting lower gas mileage you did something wrong? or if you notice the change you did something wrong?

For me it's becasue of the turbo. Under cruise and decel I am running leaner then stock which I can safly do becasue of the higher octane gas. Under boost though it's a whole other story.

You could hook up the MS to batch fire vs double batch but there is no point unless you want to use the second injector channel only under wot. The only reason I can think to do this is if you have really high fuel requirments and cannot get the injectors to pulse slow enough for a nice idle, although with the MS this isn't a huge problem anyways. I have heard of DSM guys running 1600cc injectors with the ms and not having idle problems.

It's true that MS uses batch fire over sequntial. It's true that you MAY lose 1-2 MPG city and 0-1 highway over a completely stock set-up driven exactly like a stock car. BUT, people use MS because the stock computer can't do what they need it to do for performance. I don't think there is a single car out there that could give you REAL results for this assumption. If your stock computer was leaning you out and you switch to MS with a good tune, it is going to look like you are losing gas milage but only because you weren't getting enough fuel before.

Yes, they are working on a sequential injection expansion which SHOULD be plug and play with v3.0 boards
