hp tuners 3 bar resolution
Monday, March 26, 2007 8:37 AM
I am building up a motor for my 01 cavy (2200) with all new forged internals, custom ground cam, ported head....etc. I was planning on running around 15-18 psi on my turbo with this setup. I have Hp Tuners Pro, and just started playing with the tuning files to get used to them. I know (or at least think I do) how to do the fake 2/3 bar tune for my car with it, but what kind of drivability problems will I see outside of boosted conditions with the bad resolution on a fake 3-bar tune? I live in an OBDII emissions area, so a stand alone unit would make my car illegal, so HP Tuners is my only option.

you can have a stand alone for inspection, it jsut cant throw codes thats all.

My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again

How can you run a stand alone and still leave your OBDII system intact without throwing codes? I was always told one or the other.

ive been told by a couple people that its possible to fake everythitng else to prevent codes....no personal experience, sorry.

You can just turn off the codes with HP tuners

^^if you ditch OBD2 to run standalone, uhh what exactly are you flashing with HPT?

You can put a standalone on there but you will need to "fake" the fuel injectors and coils somehow so the computer thinks its still driving them. You can easily get injector resistors to do this but the ignition will be much harder to do. You could fake the coils by finding out the resistance the ICM wants to see on the coil, it gets trickier because the coil is an inductance coil and will have a variable resistance as it discharges the spark but I'm not sure if the ICM measures this curve or if it just sences a drop. If all it does is sence a drop your all good...get a properly sized resistor and go for it, if it measures the curve you will need to build a circuit to mimic the curve....thats actually easier than it sounds, a simple RL circuit and your done. Radioshack will have everything you would need.

When you have this done you could give the computer a map signal just hanging out in the engine bay and let it do its own thing, you will need to use some o2 simulators for the pre & post cat o2 sensors and plug them into the factory computer but thats not hard either. You shouldn't even need HPT to turn anything off.

Then setup megasquirt or other standalone and T-off the throttle-body sensors(leaving them still connected to the factory computer) and let it run the fuel and ignition...the right way.

nothing.. sorry champ, you can change the parameters, not the O/S

HP Tuners | Garrett T3/T04B | 2.5" Charge Pipes | 2.5" Downpipe | 650 Injectors | HO Manifold | Addco front/rear | Motor Mounts | HKS SSQV | Spec stage 3 | AEM UEGO Wideband | Team Green LSD | FMIC | 2.3 cams | 2.3 oil pump swap | 280WHP | Now ECOTECED
