Suicide Hood DYI
Sunday, September 12, 2004 11:47 PM
ey guys i finished the suicide hood sat after noon just in time for the local show it was a big hit had quite a few people trying to figure it out ,also got some gurls asking me why i cut and weld on my car when its only 2 years old , but i got most of the fine tuning done on the hood mabie a few more need to be done but it looks great ,i also did a step by step DYI with photos on how i did it, the way mine is set up is i still use the stock hood latch and i use hooks to hold the rear of the hood down ,looks 100% stock from the out side and dont hit the front bumper can be set to stand at a 90 degree angle if you desire , so the question is who is interested in the DYI let me know pic wiill be up later today
thanks DooD for the corection, as for the questions well it opens just like you normaly would your stock hood except you only lift it about 5 inches then puill it twards you and it closes just like stock also the hindges are strong it just depends on how good you can weld ,i did all the fabrication myself all the support arms are 3/4" steel tubing with an 1/8" wall , my car is an eco so i had to relocate the cruise control modual to the driver side strut tower other than that it all looks good ,and operates fine just gotta be a little catious while closing the hood into the rear hold down hooks as for it being reliable well the only thing the hindges have to suprot is the hood weight when its open the hold down hooks and stock hood latch is what hold the hood down during driving you can still open the hood from inside the car as normal and the pic will be up this tonight im going to pick them up right now
Hmm... only a clam-shell hood?? Well, I guess I'll check out a DIY, I'd prefer a true Tilt-Forward hood, but I don't have a welder to re-locate the Latch. Clam-shell could work for now if I modify it to fit a fiberglass or C/F hood (when I have money to get one...)
Hmm... I need a sig!

wal-mart messed up the pics so i had to have them re-done as soon as i get them back they will be posted ,as for using your stock hindges it wouldnt work cause you gotta push the hood out and away from the front of your car ,and its close to the lesabre hindge but its not the hardware is alot stronger but pic soon promise they should be back thursday
His technique uses the OE Latch exactly as is. Moving your OE hinges to the front, even if done right, would mean moving your Latch to the back by the windshield. You might be able to get away w/ the OE latch as is in the front if you use real hood pins, but I'm not positive on that.
to do this parts needed is hood pins, stock hinges . remove the hood latch then move stock hinges to front and put the hood pins up by the wipers job done 1/2 day , no welding, no fab of brace. btw stock latch can be moved to firewall but you will need to fab a mount for this.
hey um havent been on the org for a few weeks, been to busy to play with the cavi or anything of the sort, found out im gonna be a daddy and all but hey i put the pic in my regestry i thought i did a post letting you guys know the pic was done but i guess not but just a few notes:
to the intimidator ,you cant just use the stock hinges and put them up front mabie if our cars had a flat nose and no radiator , see when you would tilt the hood forward on that idea the section of the hood between the headlights would go into the radiator suport, it would go suicide but only for about 3" ,but if you can pull it off more pwer to you ,any way check the pics out tell me what you guys think im re-doing the arms in billet aluminum this winter while the car is on its turbo install ill have more pics of the car the day before i park it and pic of me finishing off this years tires time for a smoke show
